"Just this next hall?" she asked as they neared the far end of the main hall. Rapunzel hadn't been out to this wing of the Institute in a few days, not since she and Ippo had gone out to the Greenhouse yard. Agh, I should probably check in on him tomorrow. I don't think I did today, Rapunzel thought with a wince. Clueless flirt or not ( Read more... )

I AM SORRY FOR BEING SO SLOW dsakfls jusdicere January 4 2012, 03:52:52 UTC
Oh, so Zero didn't know that there were two drug trials? He must have come in after the first one, which would only make her narrative more confusing. She should start from the beginning, then.

"The first drug trial was the first time this Medical Wing opened, I believe." Well, it certainly wasn't there beforehand. "That one was voluntary; people came here to try out some drugs that were left for them. The second drug trial was the night after that and not voluntary; a few of us were then randomly selected to try out a few more drugs, which were administered in our rooms. I don't believe a lot of people were picked, however, which is why you might have missed it."

Although Erika wasn't expecting to find any more leftover doses, as much as she would have liked that, perhaps there would be data or other "leftovers" that the military might have forgotten to pack up. It was worth looking, at the very least.

Unsurprisingly, the door to the medical wing seemed to be locked when Zero tried it, but Erika was viewing the lock with suspicion. Few locks in this place seemed to be reinforced, and this was one of the ones that might be suspect. Erika stepped forward to examine the lock with her flashlight, finding that it was indeed rusted and worse for wear, like other locks she had dealt with in the past.

A more considerate person might have offered to deal with it, since Erika was no stranger to dealing with these weak locks, but she stepped back as if inviting Zero to try. No need to get her own hands dirty when there was someone else around to do it, right? Besides, she didn't want to resort to using her sword or flashlight when this person could probably give the door a good kick.

"The lock doesn't look as strong as other ones I've seen. I think you should try," She 'encouraged' him instead, giving another glance at the door before looking back at Zero.

Fortunately for Erika, Zero didn't need the encouragement; he was already prepared to break the door open, with or without her input. In fact, seeing the rusty lock with the light of her flashlight was all he needed to be reassured that breaking in was possible, making him more determined to do the job himself.

"Leave it to me." He calmly faced the door, taking a moment to ready himself, and then swung his leg as hard as could at it, striking just under the knob. The door shuddered, but didn't snap open like he'd hoped. Ugh, that kick felt weak. Of course, it wouldn't be so weak if he were still... No. Now's not the time to start lamenting over not being a Reploid anymore. He had to get this open. One more try should do it, using the other leg. One, two, go.

Thankfully, this time he was successful; the door flew open from the force of the second kick. Great, so either the door was pitifully easy to break or this body wasn't as weak as he kept assuming it was. Hopefully it was the latter...though he supposed it could've been worse. Job done, he glanced back at Erika, gesturing for her to follow him, and then went inside the now-open door to the medical ward.
