Gumshoe stared at the floor through narrowed eyes as he listened to Dr. Landel's broadcast. Smug attitude? Check. One mocking taunt after another? Yep, that too. But something was missing.

Ah! There it was. The threats! Personally, Gumshoe thought the guy had no one to blame but himself for everything that had happened. And he certainly had no right to complain about someone who'd escaped from him! The detective wondered who he was referring to, though. Was it that lady? There had been a woman's voice on the intercom over a week ago. He still remembered how those broadcasts had gone. How could he forget? All of those screams he'd heard...

"'Little rat maze'..." Gumshoe grumbled. "Peh!" So they were back to this. He snapped his notebook shut and chucked it into one of the desk drawers, having forgotten to put it away after writing down that room number on the bulletin board, and walked over to the door.

He paused then, looking down at his flashlight. "Oh, right. Batteries!" He moved for his roommate's side of the room, giving him a hesitant glance. The guy had been sound asleep before Gumshoe had got there and hadn't really stirred at all during dinner. He was only borrowing the spare batteries from him, but that didn't mean he should feel alright about it. It was only right to ask permission from someone before you took their stuff.

But he wasn't really seeing another option here. Gumshoe swallowed softly and slid the batteries into place, throwing the sleeping man another look when the flashlight was switched on. Now that he had that covered, it was time for him to get moving.
