Night 59: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]

Kirk ran into the main hallway and found nothing there except more pink light coating everything. His gut feeling said that if something was happening, it should've happened already, but he was a loss to explain what was going on. The system (if he could call it that, vague as it was to describe the whole Landel's torture/ ( Read more... )

If they hadn't been surrounded by flattened corpses, Sam might've put his gun away altogether just to make it less...awkward, but as it was, he was keeping it in his hand. So it was probably for the best the guy didn't offer to shake hands. Sam offered the most polite smile he could under the circumstances.

"Hi. I'm, uh. Sam." He scratched the back of his head. Wow. Powers, huh. That would explain the crapload of monsters getting ganked left and right. He exchanged a look with Peter, eyebrows raised in question. He knew Peter had given him a list of abilities he was capable of. Of the two of them, only Peter would be able to test his out.

Well. Theoretically Sam could, too, but it wouldn't do anything except maybe give him another killer headache. No demons conveniently hanging around. Except Ruby, he guessed, but she wasn't here and, you know. It wasn't as though he'd ever test it on her. She'd kill him in his sleep, for one.

There was a short moment of hesitation as he eyed his roommate, but he decided Peter would've told Kibitoshin about them, or at least wouldn't mind the guy knowing. He'd been pretty open with Sam and...everyone, actually.

Man, sometimes Peter made Sam really frigging aware of his serious trust issues.

"Is that true? Do yours work again?"

It was pretty much exactly what Peter had guessed. So how had this even happened? Peter had to admit that he hadn't even noticed anything different in himself, but he wasn't really as tuned into his abilities as he could have been. He usually had to concentrate to use them -- or they just kicked in without his permission, like with the healing.

There was only one way to find out, though. It was possible that Kibitoshin had gotten lucky; maybe only some of the patients had been affected. It was clear that Kibitoshin wasn't brainwashed, at least, and even a small number of patients would probably be reason enough to call a state of emergency.

He glanced over to Sam when he asked his question and gave him a bewildered look for a moment. "Well, let's see..." Flying was tricky, but it was also the thing he was most used to doing. And it wasn't like it was difficult for him to think about Nathan, anyway.

While his feelings about his brother were all pretty anxiety-ridden at the moment, that didn't seem to make a difference. After a few seconds, Peter realized that he was starting to rise off of the ground. His eyes widened and he hovered there for a second or two before shutting it off and letting his feet hit the floor again.

"Looks like, yeah." He looked a mix of surprised and pleased. It had been too long since he'd been able to do that without a whole lot of trouble. "Guess we'd better make use of this, then."

His instinct was to start for the stairs, but then he remembered how this whole conversation had started and he turned to Kibitoshin. "Hey, can you take people with you when you teleport?" That would make their job a whole lot easier, and if they were able to take care of the other patients early on in the night, maybe they would even have time to test their powers out further. Was it possible that Peter could just fly his way out of here now? It was worth a shot, at least, wasn't it?

Sam- right! He'd remember that! Kibitoshin had just finished carefully filing that away for reference when Sam turned to Peter with a question- and he blinked. Peter had powers? He hadn't mentioned those before! All he'd said was that he knew how to treat injuries-- hadn't he? Oh, who knew, with how much he forgot? Well, whatever the case, it was a cheering thought. If he wasn't the only one with something to offer this evening it would really put them at a serious advantage.

Curiously, he turned to the man ready to watch him in action, if he could do it: what was it going to be? Maybe some form of ki energy? A transformation? Or even-

Peter was only in the air for a few moments, but that was enough to put a smile on Kibitoshin's face. "You can do it too? That's great! I had no idea you were such an accomplished warrior!" And since he'd asked Sam to come along as well, that probably meant that he was a warrior of some experience too!

Well! Now he was just wondering why he'd ever been worried in the first place.

In fact, he'd been cheered enough that, where he might have blushed before, he barely even blinked when Peter brought up a rather more obvious use for his own powers than simply fighting things. "Ah! That's right!" he said, with some surprise. "I could teleport us upstairs!" And maybe he could help people get to safety when they were there, as well, especially if they were too injured to move. Talk about a paramedic team- they had the potential to be a human ambulance service (if he remembered ambulances correctly). "Alright! Just make sure you're touching me and I can take us right outside those rooms!"

He'd seen Nathan do it once, that night in the town, but it was...yeah. Kinda crazy. Not what Peter could do, exactly, but it carried a novelty that he hadn't felt in awhile. Like, being able to watch someone use their abilities like it was nothing to be freaked out about, he guessed. Peter could apparently fly, but that didn't mean he harbored secret homicidal tendencies and made pacts with demons.

Though Dean might insist otherwise.

His eyebrows lifted just a hint at the phrase accomplished warrior, but it wasn't the weirdest thing he'd heard since he arrived here, so he figured it wasn't worth questioning. Nor Kibitoshin's Energizer Bunny attitude. Better than the opposite, though, so Sam wasn't complaining. He just wasn't...used to it. Tended to happen when your company was a demon, an unblinking monotone angel, and...Dean. Dean was just Dean.

"Okay." Sam glanced at Peter, then reached out to touch Kibitoshin on the shoulder. They might as well make use of these abilities while they had them. Sam wasn't sure when it'd be shut off, whether it would take till morning or if it'd just snap off in the middle of the night.

Oh. Huh. It'd better not shut off while they were mid-teleport. God, he hoped not. If they were lucky, it'd make them land in a goddamn fridge again. If not, he had no idea. Scattered particles across the atmosphere?

Maybe let's not go there.

Kibitoshin turned out to be more impressed by Peter's small show of his power than he'd really expected. Accomplished warrior? What kind of term was that? Besides, all he'd done was hover for a couple seconds. He was pretty sure that didn't count for much, especially in terms of combat. It wasn't like he'd been shooting lightnings bolts out of his hands.

Although he could probably do that now, too. It was something he'd have to keep in mind if any of those monsters caught up to them.

That wasn't likely to happen just yet, though, seeing how they were going to be able to teleport after all. All it took was making physical contact, apparently, which was almost too easy. Peter hoped that Kibitoshin wouldn't be pushing himself by taking two other people with him, but the guy hadn't seemed at all hesitant when asked.

Moving around to Kibitoshin's other side, Peter grabbed for his arm. "All right, I'm ready to go." He had been upstairs with Kibitoshin before, so he had no doubt that the guy knew where to take them. This was going to be the easiest trip upstairs in the history of Landel's, probably.

As Sam put his hand on his shoulder, for the first time Kibitoshin felt a faint twinge of concern. What if he couldn't manage two more people? It was one thing to warp himself from one hallway to virtually the next one, but three people upstairs? It wasn't quite a universal crossing, admittedly, and he hadn't been tired out by his previous effort, but who knew the way things were working tonight? All the rules had been thrown out already and they'd barely even started.

Anyway. What could possibly go wrong if he rang out of energy halfway through? Other than dropping both of them into a curiously-themed inter-dimensional rift and never seeing them again, of course.

No pressure, then.

Kibitoshin took in a slow breath, in and out, and focused his thoughts. He'd done this hundreds of times, worrying was silly at this point. Once he could feel Peter's hand at his arm, he gave a decisive nod so that he couldn't change his mind without looking silly. "Right. Let's do this." He'd managed, by some miracle, to sound as though he'd convinced himself. One hand to his forehead, middle and index finger outstretched, he summoned his energy. "Kai-kai!"
