Nightshift 24 -- Hallway outside M-Blocks

Jun 02, 2007 10:00

Ginji peered around before he started to walk again. This place was pretty empty. It was still pretty early in the night so he wasn't too worried. He wanted to get to Kurama as soon as he could. That way he could also find the stuff he needed to find tonight ( Read more... )

Haku was moving completely silently just behind Ginji. He looked up at the older boy at the question.

"I'm fifteen," he said, voice low. What was with the sudden interest in his age. Was he really that small and young-looking?

"I'm eighteen," Ginji offered without being asked. He smiled at Haku. "So we aren't that far off are we?" His voice was warm and friendly but after he said that he fell into silence again. He didn't want to attract any early rising monsters. He still wasn't sure how he would handle being in a fight.

Haku smiled and moved silently, taking a moment to double check behind them. He couldn't afford getting attacked now. He had too much to do.

Renji paused as he entered the hallway, waiting for a moment to see if he could hear anything suspicious. But all he heard was the sound of the two boys that had left his block before him, whispering quietly.

He began running again, going past them toward the other M block.

Stepping out into the hallway, Recluse glanced up towards the other M Block. No sign of the man he was to fight. He'd wait, then.

Finding the area where the shadows were thickest, he stood and waited. It was only a matter of time, and the man he was looking for had no idea who Recluse was. He just had to wait until the man blundered into the area.

Jack continued to make his way to the sunroom. So far, so good. It had been convenient to discover a flashlight amongst the things in his room. While he undoubtedly could have found his way back to the large room in the dark, a flashlight made the journey less confusing.

He was also DYING of heat. While wearing layers had seemed like a good last-ditch effort at the time, he was really starting to question how much he wanted to protect his vital organs. His right sleeve hung limp by his side as the left one stuck out only to work the flashlight. Oh, well. He'd just keep singing and take his mind off the sweat pooling all over his now clammy skin.

"What force or guile could not subdue through many warlike ages,..." He paused a moment. He was JACK HORNER. Why did HE have to go to such efforts to protect himself from a Mundy? His popularity would have to be addressed, as he could think of no other reason for this sudden dip in power. Unless, as he had surmised, Revise was using his powers to sever the Fable's magical ( ... )

Recluse saw the man coming far before the man got close. He was more than a little... amused at the 'armor'. A few layers might make a stab wound a little less lethal, but it would do bugger all in the long run, to be perfectly frank.

He waited until the man walked past him before breaking away from the shadows. He intended to humiliate this one, and a good way to start would be to make him quite aware of how careless he was.

So a vital strike wasn't of interest. He could easily slit the man's throat, but instead he brought his sharpening steel in a swing down to stab into the side of Jack's right thigh, angling the handle up as he pulled it out, widening the wound. He stepped back as he did so to bring himself out of immediate range of a strike.

"Good evening. My name is Recluse." His deep, almost metallic-edged voice was full of vicious amusement. Oh, I'm going to enjoy this.

Pain shot through Jack's leg and he stumbled in the opposite direction of source. He wanted to assess the damage (and who didn't when they were stabbed in the dark?), but he fought his urge to throw down his flashlight and open his coat. Instead, he turned the light towards his attacker as he heard a deep, "Good evening. My name is Recluse."

FUCK. He was HUGE. Jack smiled slightly and laughed it off. "So it would seem, fella. I guess that answers my question as to whether or not you still wanted to go through with the fight. I was thinking of trying to change your mind, but I suppose that isn't an option now." He arched an eyebrow. "Though this doesn't LOOK like the sunroom. Get lost, big guy?"

Phew... running for even short distances was a bit of a chore for Alfons, so he decided to slow down a little and take it a little more easily. Not that his determined gait got any weaker, just that he wanted to pace himself. It wouldn't do to be all out-of-breath so early in the evening, would it?

So he'd just need to wait a bit, then he'd be good to go. And also be ready for whatever challenges might await him.

Yohji gave each of the hallways he passed a cursory glance as he moved past them, but he didn't see any sign of anyone he knew so moved quickly away. He slid carefully out into the main hallway, looking both ways along it to make sure nothing was ready to leap out at him from the darkness.

Now, just had to wait for Cliff to arrive.

Cliff paid half an ear to the intercom and the radio as he moved. He didn't like the idea of being a pedestrian caught in the crossfire - Mr. Big Bad Head Doctor was emo tired of playing games and the radio guy seemed like he just wanted a showdown. He didn't care what they were going at. He wasn't interested in being caught in the crossfire.

Compared to that, keeping an eye out for monsters was secondary. It had been a long time since his thoughts had kept him that preoccupied. It was a miracle he'd made it to Yohji in one piece.

"Hey," He greeted the familiar silhouette as he got closer. "I'd be late to my own wedding, huh?"

Yohji looked up sharply when he heard Cliff's voice, offering the man a wan smile. The conversation they'd had earlier was still running through his mind, making him question himself and this friendship he'd built. Coupled with the thing with Kurama, he wasn't feeling up to his usual standard.

"Hey," he said, forcing himself to at least appear normal. "Heh, the brides are allowed to be late, don't see why the grooms can't be either."

He swallowed thickly, wondering how much Cliff had read of what Schuldig had said on the bulletin. It was pretty bad stuff, even for an assassin.

"Because the bride has high heals and she knows how to place a kick." Cliff replied without missing a beat. It was an old saying he'd picked up on Klaus.

There was something flat and strained in Yohji's voice that he didn't notice right away. He started to gesture for Yohji to follow him and paused about halfway though. He didn't know if this was something he should be picking at. He only read so much of the bulletin. "You ok?"
