Night 59: F11-20 Hallway

Oct 24, 2011 15:54

Anise had only just finished taking inventory of her collected medicine when she heard the telltale sound of the door unlocking. Since this wasn't the first time night had started without any words from the General, she didn't think much of it. She quickly grabbed her nighttime equipment: her meat tenderizer, flashlight, and Tokunaga. Her ( Read more... )

Shiina had been gearing up for the night, grabbing all the necessities, when the announcement of a Code Red had been issued and a strange, pink light coated every surface in her and Tear's room. Her impulse reaction was to panic and question everything she had learned so far about the institute. Had Tsubaki or Shou mentioned pink lights before? Did this have something to do with the rotten food everyone (or some of them?) was served today? Were they in trouble? What else could have happened?

She didn't have any answers no matter how far she thought back. Shou hadn't given her much to go by and his word was the one she cherished above all others. He wouldn't lie to her or put her life in danger on a whim. Those were the only cold, hard facts she had, and she clinged to them like a lifeline. She just had to trust in Shou. In his word that he wanted her along for the night, and that they would look for a weapon together.

Eager to prove she wasn't just going to be a tagalong anymore, Shiina waved goodbye to Tear and stepped out of their shared room into the dark hallway. Gritting her teeth against the fear that choked her, Shiina took one step down the hall. Then another. Then another. And soon, she was on her way to Shou's room.

He remembered taking this path the night before, and that made him walk with a little more confidence down the hall. It was also nice to have a blade, a real weapon, in his hands for the first time. Niikura was personally more accustomed to the katana, but only because location and circumstances had demanded its use over European blades; he could honestly handle anything that had an edge with far more ease than many others.

And hopefully, that skill would prove enough to protect Shiina. He kept his eyes on the room numbers, watching as they inched closer and closer to 19...ah--Niikura stepped back hastily and to the side to avoid crashing into one of the passerby's, just barely managing to avoid a collision. "Sorry, wasn't watchin' where I was goin'--" Oh wait, that hair.

"Oh! Heh, got antsy waitin' for me, Nagasawa?" What was she doing outside of her room anyway? He'd warned her, right? To stay inside until he came?

Something about the darkness and the feeling of rats or something more skittering about behind her had Shiina shuffling just a little quickly down the hall. Quicker than a person should scuttle when attempting to not run right into someone else.

And then she almost did smash into someone. She ducked her head and was attempting to sidestep them with only a quiet "sorry" when the sound of his voice stopped her. Throwing her head back in surprise, Shiina nearly gasped in relief.

"Ni-Niikura-san!" And already he was making light of the situation, but perhaps that was better than dwelling on the fear. It certainly put her at ease. "I was... going to see if I could save you some time. We can get started right away."

"Oh." Save him some time, huh...as nice as the gesture was, Niikura really would have preferred just meeting Shiina in her room, if only for his peace of mind. At least, though, they'd run into each other quickly. And it was true: now they could get started right away. Time to book it to Mike's room and get on with things before they started getting really weird.

"Ah...okay. Let's get goin' then." He held out his hand (or arm, whichever she felt like holding more) for her to take. "Stick close by, alright? Tonight's got a funny feelin' to it."
