Anise couldn't get out of the Cafeteria fast enough. The stench of rotted food was overwhelming, and she was starting to feel sick. Most of her nausea came from seeing the people around her eating it, though. Even her friends! Anise didn't know what to do... What if lunch ended up being the same ( Read more... )

Utena had woken up too late for breakfast. No big loss for her, she thought, considering what they liked to serve in the cafeteria nowadays. And so, she spent her walk to the library mulling over the night before. The three of them hadn't made it out to Doyleton, but it had been worth it to see Marc again and get some answers out of him. She wasn't mad at him anymore, thank goodness; just worried. What were the two of them doing right now, she wondered. Was Landel forcing Marc to do things for him? Like find food and firewood? She couldn't imagine Landel would be good at outdoorsy stuff on his own. She'd never seen the man, but his voice alone definitely gave off the vibe of someone who would enter the struggle of Man vs. Nature and end up as Nature's bitch.

She laughed quietly to herself as she entered the Library. She knew she ought not to be making jokes, even to herself, but it did help with tough situations sometimes. It was hard to cope in the Institute without at least some attempts at humour, at normalcy. Well, her kind of normal, anyway.

Was it sad that in comparison to Ohtori, the Institute wasn't as far off from "normal" as one might think?

With her mind on the outdoors and survival anyway, Utena's eyes settled on an appropriate book title: Robinson Crusoe. He was supposed to be a great survivor in western literature, right? She pulled the book off the shelf, leaning against it and unthinkingly blocking some of the books behind her as she opened it up, thumbing through and peering at some of the illustrations.
