Night 58: Grand Ballroom

[ from here ]It was just yesterday that Erika had thrown herself into this strange place for what should have been the last time, but she was already back. She might have been more upset about the fall, which certainly wouldn't do her aching body any good, if she hadn't perfected her "talent" of falling right on top of Sync each time they ( Read more... )

[From here.]

It seemed that the more individuals caught up in the ring's powers, the roughier the trip became. At least, that was the case to Nigredo. Fortunately, preparation allowed him to again land on his good feet, allowing the child to rise without wondering if his stitches had come undone.

A pity stitches were the least of his worries at the moment.

There existed multiples for Albedo to react to. Multiples of issues that had formed within this scenario and none of them given a chance to breathe within. Nigredo issued his ultimatum before the middle Variant could think to fume and fuss, and the waves moving between them served to show just how serious Nigredo was. Albedo grabbed for his sleeve before Nigredo used the ring, the floor rolling away beneath him. Twice in one night, this sensation had came, and the second time it was no better. Finding solid surface underneath, he took a shaky step to stabilize him, head spinning. Something lurched behind his eyes, and for a moment he wasn't sure if it was the reaction to this, or a building residue of something close to rage.

Klavier.

Albedo's eyes focused and narrowed on the man, but the child made no move towards him. Something that had no right to exist, no right at all to be near him, near Nigredo, or even Ritsuka, who likely had had no contact with Klavier's sickness before this. Which led one to question why the man had taken ( ... )

There was a pause as everyone seemed to assess one another. It couldn't have lasted more than a second, but it somehow felt much longer than that. Had the boy -- Ritsuka, was it? -- not spoken up, Klavier may have thought time itself had paused to take in the situation. Unfortunately, he was not granted any more than that brief instance to absorb the situation before Nigredo said something and promptly punched a nearby wall. That alone was odd... but in that moment, the world shifted around him and was hit with a familiar wave of nausea. He stumbled a step as he tried to regain some sense of stable footing underneath him, unconsciously gripping Yomi's hand a little harder as a sort of anchor ( ... )

Yomi wouldn’t lie to herself and claim others’ discontent didn’t bring her pleasure, at least not anymore. It did.

The threads drawing together the people around her had gotten just a little more snarled because of her actions, and that knowledge allowed her to smile through the abrupt jump from hallway to glittering ballroom. So they were using one of those rings, were they? The physical backlash turned her stomach, but it wasn’t the same sharp pain the memories brought on and she was able to shake it off relatively quickly.

You’re here now. Looks like you’re investigating what’s down here after all. The basement wasn’t high on her agenda, but it also wasn’t low, either; she could make do with this situation. She felt better than she had since breakfast. Good enough to carry her through the night, maybe ( ... )

He felt sick to his stomach. Ritsuka hadn't been like the others that night when the doors had gone crazy. He'd been attacked by a creature wearing Yuiko's face and hadn't gotten very far at all. He'd seen he rings, though, and knew he had one, but hadn't put it to much use yet. He still had it with him, but after feeling the effects - the way the ground just rolled up under him and lurched him like he was on a ship beleaguered by a storm - he wasn't sure if he should use it. Handy, yes, but Ritsuka had no idea where he was even if the rest seemed to have a pretty good idea ( ... )

Any care built into this venture had vanished the instant Nigredo regained his balance. A part of him was sorry for Ritsuka and the inevitable confusion that was likely to erupt, but there existed nothing in Nigredo that could explain better than anyone else. Therefore, rather than joining the illuminatingly obvious discussion, he stepped around the group to peer behind the staircase. As he did so, the child pressed an index finger to his recent gift, forcing a blood vessel to open and a red slit to form. This he brought to the ring's groove, setting another gem in place of the old.

The area behind the staircase contained the mentioned doors, crafted in black stone and standing rather ominous compared to all else. If this was the entrance to the caverns, Nigredo could pass through without care and leave the mess behind. Why does that seem tempting? he thought dully as he mouthed his bleeding finger. Why want to move when it meant a kind of abandonment?

Hey, I'd do it, the false Rubedo proclaimed ( ... )

...A present, then. Oh, he nearly loved Yomi then. The woman was so thoughtful, really.~ If only the two he cared about weren't here, he would have relished the opportunity. As it was, he still appreciated the gesture--missing only pretty paper and bows tucked atop. He grinned openly at her, and moved to respond--but instead was interrupted by Ritsuka ( ... )
