... Or, that is to say, she tried.
Light spilled into the kitchen around her, and she jostled, nearly dropping the knife to the not-so-dark floor. The reason she could not pass in the room became readily apparent once her eyes adjusted to the new light. The doorway was barred, in a sense, for it was not truly a doorway at all. It was more like a stall, only it reached up to ceiling from the floor, and several shelves ran the horizontal length of it. When she tried moving forward, she of course could not without disrupting the arrangement.
It was still a very large space, and once her eyes adjusted to the light, she was more readily able to examine its contents. Scattered across a number of its shelves were several bottles -- some clear, like and unlike glass, but most were not actually bottles at all, but rather stout white boxes or painted metal capsules. Each of these, even the boxes, contained some liquid or potion of some kind. The clearest was water; the boxes had some heavier substance, and the capsules were brightly colored, painted with splashing tides of water and images of fruit.
Other shelves held promise as well; here was a somewhat large brown sack, heavy for its contents, and there were a couple clear bags each with a strange red tooth-like nub on one side, and each neatly filled with pale or brownish cuts of meat. Setting the knife and flashlight both on one of the upper shelves, the girl picked up one of these bags, fussing with the red tooth. It slid from one side of the clear sack to the other, revealing and resealing an opening. The contents smelled alright, or at least not rotten. The material of the bag was thin, but sturdy, especially on the edges.
For as large as the space was, it was not very full; she could see the back wall with ease, though there was no door on the opposite side. If she knocked all the shelves to the ground, it would have been easy for her to fit inside -- even if her companion followed her in. There were several things of use here, and starting with her flashlight and blade, she began ferrying them out.
