Night 58: Main Hallway 2-West

Sep 08, 2011 22:17

[from here]Snow reached the top of the stairs within moments. This was the part where he was supposed to start raising hell and kicking in doors. If he had still been as infuriated as he had been when first leaving his room, he probably would have done that immediately. Right now, there was a slight delay. Maybe it was just an after effect of... ( Read more... )

[from here]

Soon the jagged climb was at an end, and the pace of her footfalls slowed as she stepped out of the narrow corridor. While her companion moved a few steps ahead of her, the girl looked over her shoulder with a sweep of her flashlight, trying to memorize the look of the stairwell where it nested. They'd eventually need to find their way back down, after all.

From there, she scanned the darkness. It was almost silent up here; far fewer people milling about or walking even the nearby hallways, though if she strained her ears, she thought she might have heard sound murmuring out the mouths of hallways; perhaps she was imagining things. From first appearances, this area seemed much the same as the one below; the large western hall leading to the joints and corners to bedrooms, where she kept awakening below, seemed to have its walls pierce through the floor and continue upwards for the placement of the hall here; east of that was a similar block, another north-south hall, and the east-west hall continued on into darkness. Of course, she could not label these with the cardinal directions; it mattered little, in any case.

Would the leftmost hall lead to more rooms like those downstairs? She could not recall seeing anyone led up here when they walked the lower halls at the end of the day, nor could she remember seeing anyone descend those stairs at day's beginning. If there were more people here, could it be that they were segregated by floors? Would the two file rooms be so similarly stacked on one another?

It was a mistake to assume such similarities beyond what was visible, the girl thought. Just because Locke and Edgar recognized her face didn't mean she was the same woman they knew. With her head empty of memories and thick with darkness, she was more similar to the unknown of these upper-floor hallways than the known destinations of before. But at least this darkness could be wandered without the pain and suffering that trying to recall her past life seemed to do.

She hoped, anyway.

After the initial examination, the girl turned her head to glance at her companion, attentive to his weight and posture. He was easy to spot in the dark, for the light color and great length of his hair caught slivers of even minuscule light. If he did not continue his lead, as with the staircase, she already had a path in mind -- but perhaps he knew more about this place, or had a specific destination in mind. She didn't mind either way.

Terra cared about their path, and being able to return.

Sesshoumaru didn't.

The demon was uninterested in cooperating with his captors, any compliance expected of him would likely have to be forced - he certainly had no plans of tamely returning to his cage once the night was done, unless such an action was seen to profit him. At the moment, he could not see how one could. If necessary, he would find a set of stairs again and return downstairs - that was all there was to it. At the moment there were other decisions to be made.

He stood silently, considering, like a statue made of moonlight, and was glad that he once again had a companion. The flashlight that Terra carried was useful, and meant that he would not have to sacrifice his hand to hold his own. His claws were his most effective weapon here, and should he need them...

He had been down the hallway to the left, and behind another door there was nothing but a corridor of locked rooms. But in front of them there was another hallway. Would it hold something different? Perhaps.

"Do you know this place?"

Hi voice was soft, but nonetheless commanding, even in questions. He did not truly turn to look at her as he asked, though he did turn his head slightly in her direction.

The girl shook her head, ponytail swaying in the motion. "This is the first time I've come up here." Her voice was quiet for the late hour and the silence of their surroundings. "But I've been told some things."

Now, what all had Edgar said? With so few memories in her head, pulling up something that happened only hours before was incredibly easy.

"Something called 'sleep studies' are done on this floor... where they perform experiments on us." She frowned, taking a few more steps away from the staircase. "A chapel... 'store rooms for general goods, a closet for cleaning supplies, and the like' ... a file room."

She gave her companion a curious look. "Do you know this place?"

"... hn." Sesshoumaru's voice sounded interested and somewhat thoughtful at the news - sleep studies. Experiments. A corridor of locked doors, where patients were brought.... "The experiments did not seem...

"I came to this floor last night. There is a passage full of locked doors down the left hallway, where experiments are performed; I know not whether they are the 'sleep studies' you refer to." He blinked thoughtfully, considering.

"Little of worth is likely to be gained from examining it again." And he moved forwards.
