There was no one yet in this central hallway, though if he looked back towards the west side of the building, that strange person with the unnatural-looking white hair had gone down that end of the big hallway. He could still see the whiteness of their

Gumshoe made sure to keep his eyes and ears open (as always!) as he passed THAT hallway. He wouldn't lie; he'd thought about going to look for the two of them, but the chances of actually finding their rooms before they left were slim to none, and that was if they weren't unconscious in the infirmary (he'd check it out tonight!). At least with Ms. von Karma, there wasn't as much ground to--
...
He frowned deeply.
Surely there'd be members of the History Club there, though he hadn't met that many of them in person. Hmm. Maybe that was what he should have been doing! He wouldn't mind taking up another assignment. Yeah! He'd suggest it to Mr. Edgeworth after filling him in on everything he'd missed. ...Well, what he thought he'd missed, and then the week that had come after that.
It was a good thing something started distracting him then. He noticed a shadow up ahead--presumably a person--that looked pretty short, as in kid-sized. Unless he was mistaken, they were traveling alone.
"Huh? H-Hey!" Gumshoe hesitated briefly, making an effort not to raise his voice too much, given where they were. "Wait up, pal!" Done hesitating, he jogged forward to catch up. Admittedly, he didn't think about how the person might react to seeing something his size running towards them, but since he didn't mean them any harm, he wouldn't know why they'd think he was scary until it was too late.

Anise heard a shout then, and whipped her head around... to find that she might have been a little too quick to assume she was safe. Something large was charging towards her from the darkness. Was that shout she heard a warning from another patient!?
"Eeeyahhh!" she cried in surprise and fear, turning to face the creature, raising both her meat tenderizer and her flashlight.
Fortunately for both of them, the flashlight illuminated the figure faster than Anise could swing her weapon. As soon as she caught sight of a slightly stubbly human face and a uniform much like her own, she stopped with her mallet raised high... then staggered backwards as she stopped herself from swinging it down at him, the weight and momentum of her weapon pulling her arm back over her head.
She stared at the man's face under the flashlight, and soon realized that she'd seen him before. "You're..." she began softly, still stunned, but her tone soon changed to a sharper one. "Don't scare me like that!" This wasn't the first time he'd done that, either!

He raised a hand over his eyes and squinted down at the shadow. Wait a minute. Didn't he know that voice? He opened his mouth to voice the thought, only to be shut down at the last second by the girl's tone. It made him flinch, and his jaw dropped as he fought the urge to start backing away as well. "I-I'm sorry!" he stammered. "I didn't...!" He heaved a sigh. Come to think of it, this was exactly how they'd met all those weeks ago, wasn't it? "I mean, what are you doing here on your own, pal? Where are you going?"

At least he apologized, she supposed. It was kind of hard to stay mad at someone after they started babbling apologetically like that.
"I was, um..." Anise looked over her shoulder, at the east side of the hallway, then back to Gumshoe. "I was thinking of going to the Medical Wing. Not to try that weird stuff the General was talking about, though!" She felt she should probably make that clear before the Detective got unnecessarily worried. It sounded like a lot of people went there for the drug trials last night, after all. "I wanted to see if they have anything useful to collect, like medicine."

He didn't know what she was talking about for a moment--"Weird stuff?" he blurted out without thinking--but it came back to him once he'd taken a second to think. "...Oh, oh yeah, that! Well, I'm glad to hear it, pal. Saves me the trouble of having to stop you."
"Is that right?" he said, the corner of his mouth quirking up, before the lopsided smile widened into a tired grin. "Me too! We must be on the same wavelength, pal. That's why I came over here." He gave a small chuckle and lifted up the empty pillowcase hanging by his side for her to see. But then he suddenly frowned, his brow furrowing in genuine concern. "But you know, it isn't really safe for you to be out here, pal." 'Out here' meaning 'anywhere that wasn't her room'. "Why don't we go in together?" That way he could keep an eye on her... and he wouldn't need to ask a random stranger for their flashlight.

When he went on to talk about how dangerous it was for Anise to be out, she was ready to argue... but then it turned into an invitation to travel together, and she had to pause and rethink her response.
"Sure! We can watch each other's backs," she replied, brightening. Anise was starting to feel a little glad they ran into each other. They'd made a pretty good team before, several weeks back. And since Anise wanted to be in top shape when she regrouped with Guy and Claude, it would be a big help to have someone looking out for her.
Turning her flashlight around so it illuminated the eastern part of the hall, she looked up to the Detective and asked, "Shall we?"

Gumshoe seemed to grow a few inches taller when the girl agreed that they should team up. His thoughtful expression was suddenly replaced with an eager smile. "Great!"
"Right. Let's go!" Taking his cue, he puffed out his chest and shuffled onward.
