Night 58: M71-M80 Hallway

[M79]

Zero didn't have to wait long. All at once, the lights shut off and the door suddenly unlocked. Whether this was done by someone or happened on its own didn't matter; it was obviously deliberate no matter how it happened. He figured as much from the previous night and from what Guy and the other patients had told him throughout the day. So ( Read more... )

Despite the time that had passed, Snow hadn't calmed down much at all. In fact, he was probably even more worked up after having been left to stew in his anger. He'd taken his anger out by ripping off that stupid necklace thing they made him wear and threw it across the room like he had that first night with the uniforms. And did the same with the hat. If it didn't mean he'd be walking around naked, he'd probably throw the whole damn uniform off and throw it out a window somewhere. This place, these people... he wanted nothing to do with any of it unless it involved taking the whole operation downHe only vaguely noted that his head wasn't getting all muddled up and he wasn't getting that dull, distant, numb feeling in his body like what usually happened when they shoved that stuff into him. So he had to wonder... either he'd magically gotten used to the stuff after having been injected by it several times or they'd given him something else. Of course, Snow only actually "wondered" about that for the whole of four seconds ( ... )

As his eyes opened, the sterile-looking hospital ceiling that greeted him reminded Woody far too much of the time he first woke up in this horrible place. Unlike that day, though, the room was dark, and a twinge of anxiety coiled in the pit of his stomach. Abruptly sitting up in bed, Woody clutched onto his blanket, his eyes darting back and forth.

"Uhh, hello?" he called, his gaze instinctively moving toward the other bed in the room. "Wally?"

But no one answered. He was alone.

Letting out a frustrated huff, Woody scrubbed at his face. What happened to me? he inwardly asked himself. He remembered their trip to town, meeting at least one other patient, making a purchase somewhere along the way, and then...

...then...?

Nothing. It was like there was a huge gap in his memory. Was that even normal here? The idea unsettled Woody. Either way, one look at his uniform was all he needed to know about who was still in charge of this loony bin. So instead of doctors and nurses, he still had soldiers and rifles to worry about. Carter nervously twisted the teleportation ring around his finger as he packed up for the night. As much as he'd put on smiles earlier today, he was still concerned for Claire. He wished she could have said goodbye to him. It would have given the whole game up if she had, of course, but she could have done it quietly. It would have been nice.

Carter contemplated his notebook, then quickly stuffed it into his shirt. If she was still around the institute there might be a way to get a message to her anyway. He'd been to the forest before, on the night when all the doors turned into teleporters, and it had seemed vast at the time. They'd had escaped prisoners hiding in the woods near Stalag 13, and someone as crafty as Claire could probably avoid detection for quite a long time. It wasn't outside the realm of possibility.

It seemed highly unlikely but he had yet to come across his roommate aside from the one time. This fellow much be the must popular kid on the block, literally. Had him a little jealous, not being the center of attention. At least tonight he hadn't awakened in some strange room with a strange chair and a doc decidedly off his rocker. No, instead he was a little dispirited, no company for the evening and not much in the way of super important heroic things to do but wander around ( ... )

The mere thought that he had all those pipes underground did make his mind begin to sort out a way to fix that problem. Maybe he'd make a new kind of pipe or streamline it with some other newfangled technology. Yeah, something space age would be nice. Could market it as brand new and superior because men in space used it. Anything that was good enough for those boys was certainly good enough for the average joe.

All of that was thought in a moment's breath and he took England's latter comment seriously. "Well, could you keep it down? I think you're scaring off my roommate." he gestured to the other bunk in his room, emptied and abandoned. "Anyway, if you're leaving, let me tag along. I... ah, one of the docs..."

Really, how did he talk about this while maintaining some dignity. "They had a chat with me." why was he worried about dignity? He was the best nation in the world and he could talk about anything he wanted with whoever he wanted to.
