Day 58: Arts & Crafts (Fourth shift)

Aug 30, 2011 12:49

Firo was glad to see the end of lunch, if only for the fact that in a few more hours, the day would be over. Night was the only time he had any real freedom of movement, and it was the only time he could do something worth doing, instead of just sitting around ( Read more... )

While it was always nice to spend some time with Claude, Guy had to admit he was a little relieved when their conversation was interrupted this time around. It wasn't that he'd had anything against answering his friend's questions, but Claude also hadn't really let up once he'd gotten started. Combine that with the fact that Guy wasn't used to explaining his phobia so openly and he was pretty eager to go meet his escort. Not that he made that obvious, since the last thing he wanted to do was hurt his friend's feelings ( ... )

[Wow I am so late ;; sorry Court!]

Arts and Crafts, huh? Ilia hadn't been in the room since her first day at the institute. It was here she had met Anise, and through her had learned so much about the institute. For that, Ilia considered it an unexpected place for chance meetings, not just childish activites. And speaking of one Auldrantian and chance meetings, Ilia spotted another familiar face that she had been meaning to meet with again. She had spotted Guy and Claude talking earlier at lunch, and that had reminded her all too easily of Claude's few words about their adventures the previous night. The bulletin posts between the two blonds and Anise had raised quite a few questions, questions Ilia was certain Claude would try to side-step as he had earlier that day. Maybe she would have better luck getting some info out of Guy ( ... )

It took some time to sort through all of the supplies that the room had to offer. Seeing how the younger patients had been here earlier in the day, some of them had been misplaced or put back in the wrong spot and it seemed that the staff hadn't bothered to tidy up that much. Probably because their main priority was making sure that the patients were all in line ( ... )

Guy's over-the-top reaction to her touch startled Ilia almost as much as she seemed to startle him. She drew back, her hand moving to chest. "Heavens! I'm sorry, Guy." She chuckled nervously, clearing her throat. "I'll be more careful next time."

She offered her friend a smile, examining the materials in his hand. Sewing tools. Interesting. Males typically found sewing to be more of a feminine hobby, but if Guy had an interest in the trade it made Ilia wonder if he had previous tailoring skills back home and what ideals Auldrant held concerning men and women when it came to garment-making. "Find yourself something interesting there?"

Well, that could have gone worse, all things considered. Ilia was able to laugh it off and offer an apology, and she seemed to think that he'd just been taken by surprise. It was better that she thought there was nothing more to it than that, right? And she'd probably think twice before touching him next time.

Guy allowed himself to slowly relax and then shook his head in response to her. "It's fine, really. I shouldn't have let myself get so distracted."

Luckily, they moved onto the next topic quickly enough, and Guy was eager to latch onto it. Anything was better than dwelling on why he had reacted that way to her. He glanced down at the sewing kit, loosening his hold on it before looking back to Ilia. "Hopefully. I'm planning to try and make a sheath for my sword with some leather that I bought in town, but I can't do that unless I have something to stitch it all together with."

Glad that her little misstep was so quickly forgiven, Ilia relaxed in his presence and let the moment slip out of her mind. She was much more interested in what he may be planning than about a simple misunderstanding.

"That sounds like quite a project!" Ilia smiled, finding herself getting drawn in by the idea. "I bet that will take some time, but it sounds like it will be worth it." Ilia wasn't as knowledgeable about weaponry as she was concerning other things, but a sheath for a sword was common knowledge for anyone versed in combat. That is, combat employed by more humanoid species.

But talking about swords brought on a troubling thought to Ilia's mind, and she could help herself from speaking up. "I'm guessing you had a sword with you when you went with Anise and Claude into the... basement last night?" The curiosity and was plain in her voice.

It was probably going to take him a few nights to get it done, but Guy had prepared for that. Even though he knew that a lot of effort was going to have to go into this, he knew that it would be worth it in the end. "Yeah... I mean, carrying a sword around unsheathed can be really dangerous, especially in this place." He hadn't had any accidents thus far, but that was also because he'd been taking extra precautions. If he had a sheath, he wouldn't need to worry about any of that.

The question that Ilia asked him next took him by surprise, simply because Guy hadn't realized that she'd already heard about all that. Claude or Anise must have told her, which was completely feasible seeing how she was friends with both. (Well, Claude was her son, but as far as Ilia knew he was just a friend ( ... )

Thinking about the great amount of care necessary to keep up with a weapon like a sword made Ilia thankful for her proficiency in martial arts. Her weapons were her fists and feet, which required much lower-maintenance than a sword ever would. So long as she didn't break any bones she was set ( ... )

As Guy took his seat across from Ilia he realized that she definitely must have spoken to Claude earlier if she knew all about the sea serpent. Then again, with the way Claude's hand was wrapped up it wasn't like he could just hide it or push it off to the side. Maybe that was for the best. Not that Ilia being worried was a good thing, but ( ... )

Guy didn't seem too enthusiastic about sharing his information with her, but that was understandable if it was dangerous. And he said just that, confirming her fears. She felt a little disapproving knowing Guy and Claude were allowing Anise to accompany them to such places, even knowing the younger girl's capabilities. It was hard to stanch her mothering instincts ( ... )

Dammit. Guy had gotten the feeling that the conversation was going to end up going this direction, and it was hard to know how to respond. The last thing he wanted to do was send Claude's mother right into a death trap. He was pretty sure that was one thing that he wouldn't be forgiven for. Maybe the best thing to do was try and discourage the woman for now ( ... )
