Day 58: Intercom, Morning
The intercom chimed with its signature jingle, and once again, the populace was graced with the animated tones of Major Harrington. Whatever he had for breakfast seemed only to increase his pep from dawn, as impossible as it was to believe.
"Those eighteen and over are to report for showers while the rest of y'all can do your thing in Arts and Crafts," he said, unaware that he had just allowed informality creep into his tone. "And be sure to behave. Your mother ain't here to--"
A small murmur in the background caused the man to stop mid-sentence. The lowered voice went on for a few more seconds; those with excellent hearing might have caught the hint of chastisement. When Harrington was allowed to continue, he sounded somewhat dejected.
"Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen," he muttered, shifting again to something resembling an officer. "Please be on your best behavior. Any insubordination will not be tolerated. General Aguilar expects great things from you; he has no place for anything less.
"Enjoy your shift." The intercom clicked off.
