Night 57: Medical Wing Hall

[Returning from here.]

Stepping back out into the Medical Wing, Sechs had his mind focused on two things: keeping aware of his surroundings and his physical welfare. It was an unnerving concern; having been a nearly invincible cyborg before, Sechs still wasn't fully used to the extra vulnerabilities of an organic body. He didn't like it one bit.

So far Sechs felt nothing going on in his body, just the constant worry over whether he did the right thing or not that filled up his mind. With his increasing sensitivity towards his physical self, Sechs could only find that his stomach felt strangely empty, like he never drank anything at all...

With his flashlight and machete back in his hands, Sechs paused for a moment to allow Ritsuka to catch up. The Replica's mood was worsening, but he still wanted to help the cat kid get his medical supplies, especially if he were to use such tools to help other victims of the institute's experiments...

"So, any ideas on where the medical supplies may be stored 'round here?" he gruffly asked, directing his question towards Ritsuka as he peered into the darkness that surrounded them.

His throat burned from swallowing those things down, but he tried to ignore it as much as possible. If it was going to help, then he had to try, right? It seemed a bit stupid to just pick something at random, but he couldn't exactly bear his heart out to Sechs when it seemed he had his own problems. Besides, he thought, Sechs needed more attention than Ritsuka did right now. He coughed once as he caught up to his companion, just barely getting the end of that question.

He stopped then, staring up at the older man. He was...going to stick around and help? That was a bit unexpected. He'd said as much earlier, but Ritsuka hadn't actually thought a stranger would go to such lengths for someone he barely knew. That made Ritsuka respect him a little more and he gave Sechs a small smile.

"Ah...Right, um..." But back to the question at hand? No, actually, he didn't have much of an idea. He could have sworn they'd be in the infirmary, but if not there then where? The storage closets? The operating rooms? He stopped, adjusting his backpack as he thumped a fist lightly against his chest. There. The last of the pills went down. "If not in the infirmary, I guess checking their storage area would be best?"

Not that he had a concrete idea of where to look for that... Ritsuka swung his flashlight up the hall and frowned. "I didn't see anything back the way we came, so how about going up that way?"

"Alright then," Sechs replied. Looking to his left, Sechs frowned at the low row of doors in the adjoining hallway. In his impatient opinion, there were too many rooms to go through in their search. He would save those for later if the next hall to his right proved to have nothing useful.

Sechs approached the first door ahead at the end of the wing with his flashlight aloft, immediately spotting the bathroom sign on the front. "Nope..." he muttered to himself as he turned right. Again, the door next to the first one was a bathroom as well. "Nah..." This hallway wasn't turning out to be that helpful...

Of course, there was one last door after the two washrooms, and the lack of any signs indicating which gender could use that room was encouraging. (Sechs didn't really get why bathrooms had to separate like that in the first place, but oh well...)

Once his flashlight scanned the final door, Sechs found the words he and Ritsuka had been looking for: "Storage". Encouraged by the sign, Sechs grasped the knob with a firm grip and pulled the door open. Keeping his flashlight ahead and his machete ready for any attack, Sechs peeked past the door and scanned the room. It appeared to be a storage room alright, with stacks of boxes filling up most of the space. Some of the boxes had been moved and opened, indicating that someone had already been there. A glimpse of what appeared to be bundles of bandages sticking out of one of the torn cardboard containers brought a small smile of satisfaction to the Replica's lips. This must be it!

Keeping the door open, Sechs looked over his shoulder towards his tailed tag-a-long. "Hey! C'mere!" he called, "This the kind of room you're looking for?"

As Sechs waited for Ritsuka to approach and confirm his findings, a faint shiver suddenly went through his right arm, crawling up from his finger tips all the way past his shoulder and into the side of his neck. It wasn't the usual cold sensation that came with the drug's torment, but a static-like wave which coursed through his nerves, leaving his arm, shoulder and neck in a mildly tingling state that made the hairs on his skin stand up.

"Huh..." Sechs mused to himself, thinking maybe he had wrenched the door open too hard with that arm. With a soft grunt, Sechs pushed the door farther and supported it with his back, allowing himself to gently rub at his tingling limb. Was this normal for an organic body? It didn't have anything to do with that medicine he just drank, right...?

Flickers. That's how it started. Like shadows at the corners of his eyes that seemed to move unnaturally, but when he turned his head, he saw nothing. Ritsuka put a hand over his eyes, rubbing them with his thumb and forefinger as he followed after Sechs. He couldn't be tired, so what was it? Maybe it was just paranoia creeping in. Now that he was getting closer to his own goal, there was a chance that things could go wrong. It always seemed to do that with him and so he was cautious now when things went well. Which was sad, in a way. Most others would get optimistic.

"Hey! C'mere!"

He raised his head, dropping his hand to his side and hurried toward Sechs as he called him. As he came upon the guy, propping the door open with his whole body apparently, Ritsuka was amazed at what he saw. It was the room he was looking for. Sechs had actually found it and there was... everything he needed. Most of the boxes had already been torn into, but that just made searching all the easier. In fact, it was actually better since then no one had a chance of cutting themselves trying to get the dumb boxes open!

His spirits bolstered, Ritsuka rushed inside.
