[ from here]Tolten tried to seem confident as he took the lead, proceeding further into the dark corridors. There had been nothing overtly threatening so far, but his heart was racing in his chest even so. He couldn't shake a sense of lurking danger, of shadowing hidden fear. He tried to tell himself he was being foolish, but experience told him ( Read more... )

"You didn't die, if that makes you feel better," he said, shrugging the unharmed shoulder. "Not as far as I can recall." And his recall was perfectly fine. Edward was just at war with what it meant to be a fan when you were meeting some incarnation of the real thing. Not to mention that Bella had said something about a Spider-man on the bulletin board at some point, along with Captain Kirk and...

Well, even if he didn't know Venom from popular human culture, he was still an assassin. From the future. Honestly, Edward was glad he had moved past the whole theory that everyone here may really be crazy. Somehow it was easier to accept that fictional icons were becoming real - and Wally's theory from their last conversation almost made a reasonable amount of sense - than it was to accept that perhaps Landel, or Aguilar, or whatever government was controlling them was pumping money into brainwashing patients they were said fictional icons.

"And being unpopular is nothing you have to worry about, either." That was about as reassuring as he could get, though in all accounts he thought it was quite a silly thing to worry over. He would preferred no one know of himself. Actually, he was quite glad this seemed to be the case. Perhaps it was the difference in being a superhero and being a vampire. If only Stefan and his brother had any knowledge of that book series, Edward could sleep easier.

Remembering where the food was kept would be a sort of problem, however. Edward himself had never been there, and was only going based on pure assumption. "You don't have to keep trying so hard, you know. Past the kitchen somewhere, I'm assuming?"

Wally winced and made a mental note to try and keep his dumb concerns about unimportant things to himself, or at least when he wasn't forcing a telepath to live through them too.

"I know, and I know it's the last thing I should be worried about, really," he said with a sigh, gloved hand automatically rubbing over the smooth curve the cowl gave his skull. "My mind just wanders a lot."

It was a pretty lame excuse to his own ears, and Wally was relieved to see the sun room door ahead of them, and already open. Well, at least tonight he wasn't almost running into it thanks to his powers acting up.

"Yeah, I'm guessing once we get in here, we can go through the cafeteria and into the kitchen, and there should be something where they keep food."
