Lana sat on the edge of her bed in the darkness for a few minutes, waiting to see if Aguilar was merely drawing out the opening of night, but after the locks had clicked open, there was only silence. Suddenly, the power went out.

"--Ah!" The interruption made Sonia's heart pound even faster, and she quickly stood up from the bed, eyes wide and alert. Her gaze darted toward that 'click', which sounded like it came from the door. It was just as Mokona had told her! Didn't she also say someone was meant to give the order? Sonia still didn't hear anything from the speaker. Maybe there had been a technical failure.

Mokona was still getting used to how food tasted when it had to be chewed this much, but even so, she managed to finish her meal within a minute or two of starting it. She let out a satisfied sigh and hopped to her feet, a few crumbs sticking to her chin as she scurried closer to her roommate and moved to take one of her hands again. Even in this body, one of her special skills was to tell how people truly felt - and right now, she knew Sonia was trying to be brave, even though she was in a very scary situation! Mokona wanted to make her feel better, even if it was just by reminding her she wasn't alone in this new place

Sonia carefully felt her way to the door, where Mokona was standing. "No, Mokona." Her tone was gentle but serious as she put a hand on the girl's shoulder. "You should stay here."

When her fingertips brushed against cold metal, she took hold of the handle and... Okay, the door opened as promised. But was it safe to go out there? Through the small crack between the door and its frame, she peered out into the hallway. Other prisoners were leaving their cells, or so it seemed. Some of them had flashlights. Relying on the light they provided, Sonia swiftly stuck her head out and checked if anything dangerous was waiting for them out there. There wasn't a guard or monster that she could see.

She shut the door quietly and turned again to her roommate. "It's too dark out there," she whispered. "If there are monsters like you say, I'll need a flashlight like the ones they've got. Do you know where I can find one?"

Mokona watched her roommate peek out the doorway, taking the moment to test whether or not her power to sense auras had returned with the night- she brightened as she felt the familiar hum of Fai's energy several hallways away, as well as many other, less familiar, sources of magical energy spread throughout the institute. She was far more used to this sort of awareness - being human made her feel very detached, but now, she felt like she could know everything that was happening

Her roommate bounded back toward the beds, to which Sonia gave a slightly confused look. She'd expected directions, or at least the name of somebody who could lend her one. When the girl returned with a flashlight and handed it to her, the confusion didn't leave Sonia's face.

They must really want us out of our cells. And I don't think it's to ensure we get our daily exercise.

Not as scary as it looked, huh? Sonia didn't doubt it, but that didn't change the fact it sounded creepy. It was hard not to worry when you were stuck in a place where they could capture you without warning, change your entire appearance and send monsters after you. They didn't even know who was behind it all! Maybe once she'd been here for a while, she'd be as perky about it as Mokona was, though she didn't plan on staying long. "You should take it with you. I don't want you to get hurt." Mokona had been here longer than her and it seemed there was no stopping her going out tonight. Still
