"You know," Wally complained to himself as he quickly changed into his costume, "I'm really starting to miss Landel. Sure, the guy was nuts, but at least he was a good conversationalist. Sure, I know people complain about bad guys who talk too much, but me, I really like them. It's great when they take the time to talk to me instead of doing whatever the evil plan is this week. I get more time to try and escape."
He frowned at the intercom and tugged his cowl to sit more comfortably over his hair, his fingers absently tracing the lightning bolts at his ears as he finished. Getting changed with only one arm working really sucked, and in the end he'd been forced to abandon one of his gloves and simply roll the sleeve up past his cast as best he could. Which meant he looked kinda dumb, a superhero with a broken arm, but since his options were that or the military stuff they'd forced on them all, Wally was sticking to the costume. At least that meant he felt like his own person still.
That done and his sling back in place as well, he dug out his flashlight and flicked it on. The light flickered weakly, but was steady enough, at least for now.
"Great. So, food and batteries. Hopefully if I keep this fast enough, I can get back here without anything happening."
Assuming he stuck to the plan of coming back here after he'd found something to eat. The food was the most pressing matter right now; the strain of his metabolism's normal demands and the added stress from healing meant that what he'd gotten today just wasn't going to cut it. And since he really wasn't looking to lose any extra weight in a hurry, that meant late night pantry raids. Just like college, except with less chance of running into drunken roommates and more of getting eaten by something.
Still, at least the strategy was the same. Go in, get what he needed, decide what to do after. He didn't like the sound of that intercom announcement for one thing, so while Wally was telling himself that he needed to be more careful now and not go charging off to try and help anyone he saw on their own of a night, he knew in his heart that it probably wasn't going to work that way. First sign of anyone in danger and needing help, and he'd be there, broken arm or no.
"Guess there's no point holding off the inevitable," he muttered, pushing open the door and quickly heading out into darkened hallway.
