The day progressed, and still the Digimon had maintained a casual air despite herself, moving around the town to take note of the going-ons instead of see to something herself. The credit given was still a question, but the more realistic side of her demanded that she purchase something, and test the boundaries that were set for them. Thought

Before anything, her main priority where Miyu’s credit card was concerned had to be practicality. Lunch had been a quick affair--bought with coupons in the usual expense-free way--and spent with one eye peeled for anyone else she knew. Having not found any of her acquaintances, she was now back out on the street.
At first she’d been uncertain about the new purchasing allowance, but the more she thought about it, the more useful having the chance to pick up supplies could be, assuming the prisoners could keep them and use them at night.
Her gaze travelled back and forth along the shelf in front of her. But what would be a good thing to get that wouldn’t raise suspicion…?
The people of Doyleton were one thing, but the Institute’s soldiers had to be monitoring their choices, and have a reason for letting them buy things in the first place. There were innocuous choices like non-perishable snacks or candy (a thought she’d had, but one that made less sense with Honey gone). ( ... )

By the time Sasuke had more thoroughly learned what store it was he'd stumbled into by accident earlier, his stomach had been growling. There was something about the briskness in the air that he was growing to like, despite the way his coat continued to squeak as he moved and his boots were more than a little unwieldy. They kept out the wet dampness of snow, which was probably as much as he could expect from the Institute's idea of appropriate clothing.
He'd decided to stop for lunch rather than continuing immediately and hungrily to the hardware store, now that he was certain that he would be able to find it again, but now that that was over with business was unavoidable. With a quiet jingle of the door, Sasuke entered the building and was immediately aware that this was the right place.
The smell of wood and metal; somewhere in here would perhaps be something that he could actually use and not have to try to steal. Sasuke browsed the shelves with an expression that spoke of thorough concentration.

Sasuke could recall the first time he had been in this store and the considerable lengths he'd gone to in an effort to steal something remotely useful from it, only to have the tools he'd deemed most useful taken from him at the bus. How closely were the soldiers clinging to their covers as hospital staff? If they made a legitimate purchase, would they care about its contents?
He was frowning deeply over a selection of various gauges of wire when footsteps approached him -- measured and familiar enough that when the greeting came, he was not surprised. Without moving his line of blind-sight, Sasuke inclined his head, almost amused by the regularity of some things in this place.
"Renamon," acknowledgment even as his fingers curved thoughtfully over a coil of steel. "We meet again."

If memory served, it placed a shield to accompany sword, and the Digimon wondered if there was symbolism in that. There were still doors that had not been opened--were there more of items to be gathered, or were they something else entirely? It was a game to be played, of that she was sure, but of any importance was still something to be measured.

He started to answer just as they entered the hardware store, "No, I'm not from around here; I'm not even from this country... And like you, I'm used to a larger city." Much larger; small places like this were quaint enough to visit, but he much preferred the life of the city where so many humans gathered.
Now that they'd arrived at the hardware store, Izaya headed for the first aisle. He wasn't entirely sure what he was looking for; it had to be cheap, obviously, but other than that... He supposed he'd just browse until he saw something that caught his fancy. And even if he didn't find something in the end, it wouldn't be a wasted effort in the least as long as their conversation continued.

When Anise entered the store, her ice cream was just about done, so she stopped to finish eating the cone before going ahead. Once it was done, she threw the paper cone-holder in a garbage can by the entrance door, then nodded to Edgeworth to show that she was ready.
"Where should we start...?" Anise mused as she looked at the signs hanging over each of the aisles. Tools, adhesives, paint... "Oh! Camping and outdoor! Let's try there." That had to include things like survival tools, right? Just what they needed. Without waiting for his opinion, Anise started in that direction, though she walked slowly enough for them to start talking while they walked.
"So, um... how long have you been at the institute?" she asked. She guessed it couldn't have been long, but knowing the specific time could help Anise understand just how much this guy still needed to know.

Letting that question linger for a moment, Anise's attention was grabbed by a row of binoculars on a nearby shelf. Her face lighting up, she picked one up and started looking it over, thinking about the possible uses it could have. It wasn't long, however, until her attention returned to the man with her, though she kept the item in her hands, occasionally glancing back to it.
"By dispute, you mean like... someone says they saw you here before, and you don't remember it? Something like that?" It had happened enough times with Anise's friends that it wouldn't be a surprise if it happened to someone else, too. Still, it was probably a big surprise for Edgeworth.
