While he still wasn't entirely sure how much $25 would buy him, he had a sort of inkling, after exploring the town for the last few weeks. Currency was always different, no matter what world they visited, though usually something like this came up a lot sooner.
That aside, there was only one thing in mind, when given the chance to make a purchase. Selfish... maybe. Though not if he shared! And even if it couldn't take everything away, something to numb the edges and make everything feel a little less real would be appreciated.
Last time they hadn't let him stay more than a few minutes. Though if that was because he didn't have money, or because he didn't look old enough, he wasn't sure. Who decided how old someone had to be to drink? Seemed kind of silly. Sakura, Syaoran, Mokona, they were young, children at that, and a few sips hadn't hurt them any. In fact, Sakura had always been kind of adorable when she started to get tipsy. And who could forget Syaoran, brandishing a ladle from the kitchen as though it were a matchless blade?
Happier times. A fitting subject for one about to drown his sorrows. It took a bit of hassling to get through the front door; just how old did they think a person ought to be to drink here? He took a seat himself, though the moment he surveyed his company, he wasn't sure a single drink would be enough.
Ignoring the man a few seats over, he waved to the bartender and slid his card across the counter before he started removing his coat and gloves, "wine for me!"

Kurogane didn't like the response he got, mostly because it didn't make sense to him. "Not in this hemisphere" didn't explain anything so much as the tone it was said in. No sake then. After watching the man get a look from the nurse at the door though, he eventually sighed out that they had wine and beer. Wine made sense, and it was exactly what the ninja wanted.
"A bottle of wine then," he changed his order to see if it would pass.
When the bartender turned away, maybe to get his order, he spotted someone who very much did not need to be at the bar have a seat a bit away. Flashes of two very different incidents when the magician had been intoxicated went through Kurogane's mind before me forced both of them away and sighed. The man didn't need wine, but all things considered he'd probably be less of an annoyance if he was acting more like an idiot. Besides that, he'd be the fastest to get himself thrown out if he went that route. In the event that he acted like he had in Shara, then he wouldn't be annoying at all.
The glass that arrived was almost enough to make him forget his worries, if only for a moment or two. The scent, the taste, the feeling of a glass in his hand, it was all so painfully familiar. He brought the glass to his lips, taking a sip that was probably much longer than it ought to be. Sure enough, even the taste was just as it should be. Not the best quality, perhaps, but even cheap wine was better than none at all.
He let out a contented sigh, pointedly ignoring his present company in favor of the glass in front of him. There was another sip, more leisurely this time. While it probably wasn't the best of ideas to come here on an empty stomach at lunch, it would certainly heighten the effects of the drink. Not that he minded.
The warning was loud enough to be heard from a few seats over, but remained soft enough so that the bartender wouldn't catch wind and act on a suspicion. Though he hadn't been watching carefully, from the corner of his eye the ninja had caught Fai's smile and wanted nothing to come of it. He did not want to be tossed out for any reason and, he figured, neither did Fai. With a warning he hoped the magician would at least take some consideration before anything potentially got out of hand.
And that was enough. Kurogane left things back to silence and hoped they would remain as such as the bartender returned with the bottle he'd asked for. He waved the offer of a glass and just had the guy open it before drinking straight from the bottle. He couldn't have cared less for what looks it earned him either.
"Act up? Me?" he replied, doing his best to look offended and appalled as he took another long sip from his wine glass. Distance, he reminded himself, as long as he kept up a distance between them, things would be fine. And if he slipped from time to time, he could always blame the drink.
"Hyuuuuuuuuuuuu," he gave a low whistle(though it wasn't a real whistle... more just like he was trying to imitate the sound without actually managing to do it) when he saw the bottle that Kurogane was drinking. He was drinking that much and he had the nerve to tell him not to act up? At least Yuuhi was drinking from a glass instead of right from the bottle.
Not that he wouldn't, given half a chance. He smirked a little at that, the expression slipping him by, "can you really drink all that Kurogane?"
This was a bar. He was allowed to drink as much as he wanted so long as he could pay. With that intent he'd tilted the bottle back but as the magician continued to speak, Kurogane soon found a reason to come up short. At hearing that last word he dropped the bottle away from his mouth and back to the table, his gaze turning fully to look at Fai with an expression he rarely showed.
Surprising a ninja was a feat in battle, but doing the same in words was rarer still. And for a while the shock kept him silent until realization settled in. His expression softened as his eyes dropped to the table, then returned to the bottle as he grabbed it again.
"I mean it," he repeated in the same calm tone as before.
AGH. My work and net have been all over. sorry so late! not_rly_faiMay 23 2011, 14:54:39 UTC
Even if he wasn't looking directly at Kurogane, he could still feel the palpable change in the air when he called the man by his proper name. They both knew what it meant without words or explanations and even if it was painful to see that shocked look on his face, Yuuhi kept his own smile careful and unmoved. He couldn't waver, he had to mean it, even if he did turn back to his wine glass, nearly polishing what remained off in just a few gulps.
"Can I have another one?" he called to the bartender, looking intently at what little remained in his glass.

No reason to stop him then.

His smile came just a little easier.
