And it was back to empty halls. Taura knew she'd gotten a quick start, but it was still unusual.
She pressed her ear to the door to outside; the quiet was just as absolute. There could be anything out there -- an ambush, a quiet, snow-covered field, a doorway to another planet. She hated working under such uncertain conditions.
Waiting around wasn't going to do anything but make her more vulnerable, so she pushed the door open and made a target out of herself.
Before moving to the northern hallway, Anise peeked from around the door frame, looking to see if her friends were already there, waiting for her. If they were, she had to make sure she was presenting herself right... but it looked like the hallway was empty. No surprise there, considering Anise's room was way closer to the meeting spot than the others'. They were probably on their way.
Anise walked ahead, stopping at the northern end of the hallway. She kept her head high, not allowing her face or body language to betray the stress or the sadness she'd been dealing with earlier that day. She needed to be ready to smile for her friends, and to keep smiling through the whole night!
... Okay, maybe not the whole night. She still had some bad news to deliver. But other than that, big smiles!
Tonight was going to be a big chance for making progress. If Anise could just keep that in mind, it would be easier to stay positive.
[From here.]Upon heading back inside, Guy almost immediately caught sight of Anise's familiar form. She'd ditched the hat and tied her pigtails in her normal fashion, which made her a bit more recognizable. He wondered why it was that the girl hadn't yet found her outfit from home, but he knew better than to point that out to her

Claude was relieved to find the girl waiting for them in the hallway, and he swiftly approached her alongside Guy. "Hey, Anise!" he greeted with a chipper smile that might have made it hard to believe he'd been in a darker mood just a few minutes ago. There wasn't any reason to drag things down now that the three of them had met, so Claude was determined to do his best to stay positive for everyone
( ... )
Big smiles, Anise reminded herself when her friends' faces came into view.
And that was exactly what she gave the two men when she moved to greet them. "Guy, Claude! Glad to see you made it!" Even though the smile was a bit forced, Anise was glad that this meet-up was already going smoother than last night's

Not many people were out in these halls yet. Good, thought Scott. He could just keep on running, and get used to moving with the weight of the broadsword in hand. The quicker he was able to use Senna's weapon the best it could possibly be used, the better. Anything less was pretty much a slap in the face to her, as far as he was concerned right now.
What? Scott Pilgrim could be respectful of people when he was properly motivated.
Another thing to think about was the matter of Venom's belongings. Edward had awoken to nothing in his room but the ridiculous uniform he was dressed in - even now he unbuttoned the first few of the shirt to feel less constricted - and an extra pair of boots on the floor. Charlie's shotgun, the one shell it contained, his maps, his notes - all gone.
Then: there it was. All neatly organized, all branded with the number that was also on his dog tags. He could imagine Charlie wasn't going to approve very much of that... if he ever got his gun back.
A scattering of people appeared in this stretch of hallways, a trend that would fade in the coming night. He probably only had a few minutes before the remaining patients came out of their rooms. Here was hoping he could beat out the crowd.
