Another hallway, and whatever luck he'd apparently been missing before now was still will him; the hallway was still largely empty and Peter was an easy figure to follow.

Not that there were many places he could really be headed in this area of the institute, really. All there were here were hallways and rooms, and he doubted that the basement was really this conveniently located. It didn't make much sense, considering what little he'd heard of it. It was, theoretically, one of the more dangerous areas, after all.

So Brainiac 5 wasn't really surprised as Peter continued down the hallway into the one before, and once he was certain the other boy was far enough ahead to not notice he was being followed, he continued after him.

Now what, Ippo thought as he shined his light down the hallway, finding two doors, two options. The one to his right was closer, but it was pitch black beyond. The other door shone around the door frame, which the boxer could only assume was moonlight. It was tempting, the pull of freedom, but he needed to find his friend first. How could he just abandon a kid? His mom would pop him in the face!

Okay, retreat was not allowed! Taking a chance, Ippo walked the short distance to the door beside him.

There wasn't much to see, partly because it was dark and partly because Harvey had gone up and down these hallways more times than he could count. It really hadn't been that many if he actually thought about it, but the monotony was what made it feel that way.

And since he wasn't interested in dragging his feet, he barely gave a glance to his surroundings, just taking a quick right out of the block and moving down the hall. He had to admit everything felt somehow more serious, more important, now that he was wearing the new uniform they'd been given. The boots thumped loudly on the floor (which wasn't a good thing, he realized) and he was even standing a little straighter. It wasn't a suit, but it wasn't a pair of sweats either, so he could appreciate that.

And then, as soon as he made it out to the larger hallway, Byrne froze, examining his surroundings with uncertainty. The lack of light made it difficult to see what was at either end of the hall, but it was okay. He knew where he was going, and that was....left, wasn't it? Or was it right? No, he swore he'd gone right last night, but Badd's map had said left, hadn't it? Or was it...uhhh...

Oh, crap. Which way was the right way to go? Why couldn't he remember now? Right or left? Augh! He was too used to getting directions from Calisto and Little Thief, he should've been paying more attention to his surroundings today instead of worrying about everything else, he should've... No, no, stop it, he couldn't just get lost. Think Faraday, think! Which way, which way... Maybe uh, left? Left looked about right, yeah. Let's go left, towards that door. Badd's map had pointed left, hadn't it? Yeah!

...Or so he hoped. Well, only one way to find out if it was the right way, right?

Okay, so! It had been right after all! Ahaha, how silly of him to forget these things. Well, it was no problem. He was sure of where was going now; he remembered how the map had looked (generally) and he was starting to remember how the hallways were laid out around here. Slowly but surely, his sense of direction was coming back to him.

Thankfully, his eyes were beginning to adjust to the darkness. It was only a bit easier to see now, but a bit was better than being totally blind in the dark. Just to be safe though, he hugged the wall as he moved on to the next hallway.

And this time, he was sure that this was the right way.

[From here.]Okay, he'd made it out of the room block. They didn't really count as barracks, even with this new management in place, and yet Zack wouldn't be surprised if they started being referred to that way ( ... )
