Night 54: Sun Room

[From here.]

For being a flashlight, Guybrush had to admit that it pretty much did nothing against the overwhelming darkness that filled the Sun Room at night. After a quick sweep from side to side, he edged along the wall, looking for one of the couches. He found the bulletin board easily enough in the dim light, and as he'd hoped, there wasn't a soldier in sight. They must have cleared out after Landel's tantrum, if it was anything like Scott described.

Speaking of his missing roommate, it was time to get to work. Finally finding a couch from which he figured he could maybe get a view of the balcony, Guybrush made a bee-line for it. He put one foot on the seat cushion, wobbling and waving his arms as he tried to find his balance. Once steady, his other foot went to the back of the couch. Despite being tall, the area beyond the railing was just out of his line of sight.

Again, the flashlight proved mostly unhelpful as the beam barely reached the top of the balcony. An encouraging shake didn't help it much. "Great. It's still too dark," he said. "So much for avoiding the stairs." Jumping on the couch didn't make things any better, though it did reveal some squeaky springs in the seats. Time for a desperation tactic. Hopping off his perch briefly, he grabbed one of the cushions from a nearby chair, returning to his spot with it and giving the railing a steely-eyed glare of determination.

"Hey!" Guybrush called mid-jump, tossing the cushion as far as possible (it soared an amazing two feet before landing on the floor with a pmf- a record in his cushion-tossing book; it came nowhere near clearing the railing, or even reaching it). "Crud. Is anyone up there? And if you are, could you tell me who, because I'm looking for someone in particular and if you're just a creepy kid or a lady with a lot of fire power, then I can just go away!"
