Night 54: M51-M60 Hallway

[M55]He was sitting on the edge of a bed. How long had he been sitting there with his head in his hands? The ninja stared at the floor between gloved fingers before removing them to get a better look at the room as a whole. Two beds, desks and chairs, a dresser. And on the other bed was another man, a familiar presence but at the same time an ( Read more... )

It had been odd, the way Terra had come back into the room and immediately fallen into his bed. Maybe the kid had gotten himself gassed, sedated, and locked up the same way Zack had. It was possible, at the least, but that was clearly something that was going to be asked another time.

Especially since Zack himself only had a few bites of his dinner before he also allowed himself to doze. The day had been a long one, and with Terra sleeping soundly in the other bed, it was difficult to not give into the temptation. Besides, getting a few winks before the night came wasn't the worst idea in the first place.

The intercom coming on with its usual static was what woke him up, though Zack wasn't quite as used to the computerized voice that was speaking. He'd heard it earlier in the day, yes, but it was odd that it was even being used at night. Maybe the soldiers and their general were too busy processing the take-over to have much time to actually talk to them. It sounded pretty fitting of the military. The way that the voice suddenly got distorted was a bit more unsettling, but it didn't last long.

Project 2911. Well, that sounded friendly, didn't it?

Sighing, Zack pulled himself out of his bed, though was quick to pause when the next announcement came on. That voice was certainly human, though Zack was pretty sure he'd never heard it before. He could tell that it was a soldier speaking almost right away; in fact, the calm yet firm tone reminded him a bit of Lazard.

Granted, Lazard had turned out to be much more than met the eye, which probably wasn't the case here. This stranger was trying to make them all scared, but Zack knew enough about military terminology that he wasn't going to just back down. If they were going to be punished, then he'd take that punishment without complaint. He knew he'd fought back that morning, and seeing how it had been to help a friend, he hardly regretted it.

Speaking of which, now that all of the talking was over with it was about time for him to go meet up with Tifa. He realized that they still didn't have much of a plan, but the fact that their night might be structured for them probably meant that was a good thing.

While Zack was worried about Terra sleeping through everything, even shaking the kid on the shoulder didn't seem to wake him up. With a sigh, the SOLDIER gave it up and went to gather up his pry bar, flashlight, and radio.

He really hoped that he got his hands on a sword sooner rather than later. There was no point in complaining, though, and so Zack continued on to the door.

Except that the door wouldn't open. Frowning, he tried the handle a few times before realizing that it seemed to be stuck. That had never happened before, and he hoped that he hadn't been locked in -- although that didn't seem to be the case, seeing how the knob still turned.

Deciding to add a little more force, Zack pulled back and then rammed at the door with his shoulder -- at which point it opened easily, sending him stumbling out into the hallway. He managed to maintain his balance, at the least, but he felt kind of ridiculous. It was a good thing there weren't too many patients in the hall with him.

Well, these things happened. Dusting himself off, he tightened his grip on both flashlight and pry bar and then started down the hall. He didn't want to be late to meet Tifa because of a mishap as silly as that.
