Oh god it's longer than I thought. D8 Sorry to hit you with the TL;DR again!hairraisingFebruary 10 2011, 05:20:19 UTC
Yikes. Was this girl even newer than her? Rapunzel was still barely getting a grip on the way this whole Institute place worked; now, she was already being thrust into the role Kairi had taken opposite to her earlier. She was reminded of Soma pointing out that a few weeks was considered long enough to be a veteran here. Rapunzel saw how that could be now, if turnover was this fast. Did the people who ran this place just get really bored really fast or something?
"Uh, I'm not even sure myself just yet," Rapunzel answered with a much more visible wince following the other girl's reaction. "As far as I can tell, this place is supposed to be for healing? They tried telling me earlier today that I was here to 'get better.' But... But that's so obviously not what's going on here!" she tried to explain, frustration filtered back into her tone and expression there. She really was getting sick of being confused and intimidated, be it here or back in her tower. "I mean, who do they think they're fooling? They just had nurses walking everyone around earlier, and now there are soldiers out there! Everywhere! And there are supposed to be monsters after lights go out? It's just-! Ugh!"
She had to force herself to slow down. The poor girl probably had no idea what Rapunzel was babbling about. "I'm sorry, this must sound so confusing," she said, shaking her head and putting finger tips to her forehead. "I wish I could explain better, but I still really, really, really don't get what's going on, like I said."
Taking the last few steps over to the bed, Rapunzel sunk down onto the mattress on her side of the room, carrying with her the weight of not just today, but everything in the past few days of her life. With a sigh, she tried her best to explain a little more slowly: "The only guess I've got so far is that this is some kind of place that holds people with special... 'gifts,' you could say."
She gave the dark-haired girl a cautious look. Would it be all right to share her secret now, in the privacy of this small room? If she was going to survive here, she had to trust someone, she thought, even as her chest tightened in apprehension. If it was going to be anyone, it might as well be the person she had to share space with. The girl seemed nice, too. It would be all right, she thought. What reason would she have to take advantage of the knowledge?
With a deep breath, she continued: "...I had a gift like that back home. A very, very powerful one. I was supposed to be taken away to a place where no one could ever get at it again. And unless there's something even weirder than I thought going on - and trust me, this place is insane so far - I'm guessing this is that place."
ah, I don't mind. /likes the tl;dr (I'm not tl;dring as much because...new muse is still new ;;)xiao_hei_hu_dieFebruary 10 2011, 05:58:00 UTC
"Nurses and soldiers?" That didn't sound all that strange; she was accustomed to both and didn't give much thought. But "monsters after lights go out" was out of place. "...what sort of monsters?"
Fingers shifted into a clasped position as her brow furrowed a bit. Not Akuma. Akuma didn't care about the time of their appearance. It was something else.
"Yes, it's confusing," Lenalee admitted. "But...where is this place, exactly? Europe? North America?" If she can figure that out, she could get her bearings.
Even if the word "gifts" made her heart clench. Gift? Curse was more like it. Or the thing she had to live with. "Powers, or gifts?" Her gaze drifted to her feet.
But then she looked up as the other gave her a look, the kind that was asking if she could be trusted. Lenalee nodded in acknowledgment. Secrets, she could keep well.
If only the scenario explained wasn't so familiar. "It wouldn't be the first time people are taken away for some ability they had." She didn't want to remember those days, without her brother. Her gaze flickered away. "Though I was taken away in the past because they wanted to use my 'gift' even before I knew what it was."
Well then you're gonna love this. XDhairraisingFebruary 10 2011, 09:06:13 UTC
The girl didn't seem surprised when monsters were mentioned, which (ironically) surprised Rapunzel. Though, she did still seem worried, and rightly so. Rapunzel had no idea what the other patients had meant in the way of monsters, and honestly, she was nooooot exactly looking forward to finding out.
Then there was a touch of hesitation in the girl's tone when asking about "gifts." So, she wasn't really comfortable with using that word. "Well, powers I guess, then. Sorry," she answered. She wasn't going to make the girl call whatever she'd had a gift if she didn't think of it that way. Did probably mean that she knew what Rapunzel was talking about, though, and that she fit the pattern from earlier. Nearly everyone Rapunzel had spoken to today, either in person or over the board, had been the same way - all "gifted" back home, and all without those gifts now. At least, during the day. She still held hope for that one comment she had seen about things getting better at night, whatever it might have meant.
Good, the girl seemed to know what she was asking without her even having to say anything. Trust was a hard thing to come by, it seemed. She was thankful it could still be found here. Even more surprising, however, was the admission that this wasn't the first time something like this had happened to the other girl. Rapunzel's head tipped up just after she picked up her dinner and started in on it. "You were taken away too? Really?" Maybe she had been right earlier after thinking she and Soma might not have been the only ones to live lives locked away. "How long ago was&mdash"
Rapunzel didn't have time to finish. In the middle of speaking, that disembodied voice came on above her head again, and Rapunzel instinctively reached to cover her ears. This woman's voice was even worse than the man's had been earlier. It got under her skin, made it creep and crawl (eugh). It sounded like someone had brought the dead back to life and had it speak, like some kind of stiff ventriloquist's dummy. It didn't get any better as the voice trailed off into distortion...
I do~ (and I'm sorry for the slow tagging ;_;)xiao_hei_hu_dieFebruary 14 2011, 03:20:03 UTC
"It's fine," she replied. "It's a different definition for everyone, after all." Even managed a small smile after that. It wasn't as if everyone had known what she had gone through, and...they didn't need to know.
"When I was very young, they took me away," Fingers clasped loosely together as she thought back to it. "It was..."
Her voice trailed off when that voice began speaking. And she immediately felt her skin crawling, too. shuddering. Sickening this voice, and in an entirely different way from how she had felt in the past. There had been only fear, but this made the fear and dread a hundred times worse.
She didn't think it could get any more horrid until the lights shut, and she had to bite back her scream of surprise.

Was it happening all over again?
Why?
She clenched her hands.
