Day 54: Intercom, Noon

Jan 24, 2011 06:05

After the whole debacle in the cafeteria and the subsequent methods that the soldiers had used to keep the patients in line, it was no wonder that the Head Doctor sounded grim and terse as he finally returned to his usual station during the current intercom announcement ( Read more... )

Locked up all alone, Lightning couldn't help but hate her hair being in her face the most. She was vaguely aware of hurting-- just about everywhere, really, but until she managed to work herself up into some higher form of consciousness, she decided that the fact she had far too much of her own rosy-hued hair tangled up and blocking her vision was the worst of her problems. Especially since, for some reason, she couldn't quite seem to do anything about it.

Needless to say, her awareness was somewhat fleeting, time seeming simultaneously compressed and stretched out as she lay sedated on a surface that, while somewhat cushioned, wasn't enough to be comfortable. For a long while she just didn't care, but eventually her shoulder began aching too sharply to ignore, and then finally-- finally she remembered why she was there... how she'd been outmatched and slammed into the ground not just once, but twice by one of the strange soldiers she and Snow had taken on.

If nothing else, the realization certainly explained the general feeling of being crushed, at least, and the more distinct feeling of a deep bruise settling in across her ribs and lower back. The soldier who had been instrumental in finally taking her down must have landed on top of her with his weight focused through his knee. Coupled with the blow to her side with his weapon....

What she didn't understand was why she was alive at all. She'd been defeated, and the soldiers had guns. It would have been so easy to finally just fix this 'problem' for good... and yet there she lay, her arms tied to her body - they had tied her up - and heavily drugged. She recognized the sensation of that enforced apathy from her first day... and judging from the fact that she felt upset about that at all probably indicated it had been some time since it had been done.

By the time Lightning decided to sit up - an unusually difficult undertaking in her current state, she noticed something else: blood. As if it wasn't all bad enough, apparently her nose had been bleeding while she was down, making a right mess of... just about everything. Considering the staining potential though, she couldn't be bothered to use what little annoyance the drugs allowed her. Let them have fun cleaning that up.

At least, she couldn't be annoyed towards that. Not when she'd managed to mess up so thoroughly herself. Unfortunately though, against her every desire, all she could do here was wait- wait and hope that whatever they had in store for her next wasn't just a bullet through her head as an example to the others, or an attempt to convert her after figuring out what and who she really was.

Good going, Farron.
