Dayshift 54: Doctor's Office 1 (Dr. Yumeno) [second shift]

Daedalus was surprised. Surprise was not often a good thing. It meant a miscalculation, or the lack of calculation, and he strived to be above either.

Standing just outside his door, with a view of the hallway leading past the Sun Room, he crossed his arms, lips pressed tight. First, there had been the surprise of arriving at the hospital only to find a military force shadowing the regular staff at every interval. An authorized military force, or so he’d been told, though the demeanour of the nurses said otherwise. Regardless of whether it was professional or not, what stirred unrest in Daedalus was that he--he--was in the dark about the true reason for all of this. He’d worked so that the government didn’t surprise him, but here…

And then, to add to the fact, there had been an outburst during breakfast. Patients throwing food. Fighting. Tear gas. Was it military boorishness, or excessive force?

Sighing, the young doctor furrowed his brow. In the eyes of upper management, he was in the way if he tried to get involved, of course. Poking around in matters was not his designation. But the whole situation annoyed him, there was no denying that. He disliked surprises.

After blowing out a hard breath, he set his shoulders and stepped back inside, leaving the door open behind him as he turned around in the doorway, uncharacteristically undecided about whether he should stay, or go, or do nothing at all. Being annoyed also annoyed him. Finally, he settled for letting his shoulders drop as he sought to reclaim his composure.
