Direct and to the point. Gant could appreciate that kind of attitude, at least as far as nighttime here was concerned. Lingering anywhere for too long seemed to be a bad idea.
Gant had never had the occasion to frequent any asylums back home (though some of his co-workers might have thought he'd seen a few at least) so he didn't quite understand the function of all the rooms he had seen. This one was about the same. It looked sort of hospital-like, or maybe like an operating area, but what did they really do up here? These beds... did they take patients here any time during the day? He'd never seen it before. Actually, he hadn't stepped anywhere on the second floor during the daylight hours since coming here. Was the second floor only used for special occasions? Hmm, the mysteries grew!
Gant followed Xemnas to the computer and watched a bit over the man's shoulder as he fiddled with it. When it came to a password protected screen though, Gant was just as resigned as the Nobody to its uselessness. "Damn..." He wouldn't mind a hint or two now and then.
He wasn't willing to look into any of the other four doors leading out of this room while Xemnas was occupied, so he made himself look busy around the room. He moved close to a line of beds and began checking under each one as well as over all the tables. Didn't want to leave any stone unturned. God, it was like he was a gruntwork detective again trying to look busy while the boss expected results.... Made him feel a bit insignificant, actually.
The supplies stored within the cabinet consisted of all sorts of necessary equipment one would expect to find within a similar sort of area. All of them were useful when conducting experiments, to pursue knowledge, and unlike the Police Chief Xemnas was quite familiar with such purposes. To many, these sorts of items were perhaps a source of unpleasant implications. To the Nobody, however, they were but mere tools. Tools that were unfortunately too great in number to be easily taken.
Still, he grabbed a syringe and a small number of vials and tubes; perhaps he would be allowed another opportunity to take a sample of that curious golden substance that was the blood of the creature he had obliberated one night prior, or perhaps it would be useful for other purposes. The remaining supplies were either of no immediate use or were simply impractical with the resources he currently possessed; there was no reason to take them now, though he would keep their location in mind.
"I am finished," he announced calmly as he turned to face his compantion, who had began investigating the empty beds and tables. "If you, too, are ready, we should continue. The nights only grant us limited time, after all."
Gant looked up from one of the beds when Xemnas addressed him. He nodded and moved back towards the other man.
"Just thought I'd make sure there were no creepy crawlies waiting for us." That wasn't entirely true, but hey, it was a good enough excuse. He smiled at the other man. "Glad to report nothing should be coming at us from behind, at least."
He was certainly ready to move on when Xemnas was. Nothing interesting here...
"I see," Xemnas responded, offering a nod before he turned towards the door which would supposedly lead to the animal testing kennels. If this was a room dedicated to the performance of experiments, he was interested in what sorts of experiments were actually done.
However, the door did not yield to the Nobody's first attempt to open it. Yet again there was a fragile lock preventing him from doing so, but it was but a small hindrance easily taken care of.
As he emerged from the Animal Test Subjects Kennel, Xemnas once more cast a look through the room, determining it to be as empty as they had left it. A fortunate development; as he held no interest in unnecessary delays.
The next door the Superior wished to see beyond was not far of. It was of little surprise that this door, too, was locked. A fragile lock that would hardly pose any problems.
Glad to be out of that horror house, Gant shut the door behind them and followed Xemnas a few steps to the next door. From the way Xemnas regarded the door (and how he had tested the lock) it was clear he wanted in. Well... "I got this one, Xemmers." Couldn't have the other guy doing all the work. Would make Gant look useless.
Stepping forward, he only needed one good shoulder shove to break through the bad lock. Huh. Now only if the contents of this room would be worth it. And hopefully it would be less feral and disease ridden than the last one.
Again, the room's darkness was as unstirred as they had left it. Perhaps those that had gone before them had passed through while they were investigating the rooms prior, or perhaps they were beyond one of the doors that he had still left untouched.
Once he approached the door on the right, however, there was the evidence of the former. With its fragile lock broken by brute force, it had been left slightly ajar. Carefully, he pushed it open, allowing a view of what lay beyond.
Strange, how they had seen no one else and yet doors were already opened for them. His theory that it could have been a monster still whispered in the back of his head, but Gant was beginning to doubt. Must just be other patients being quiet. A monster would have been loud when it came to opening doors, or else would have waited for a victim rather than go rushing around looking for them. Or maybe that was just wishful thinking. Anywho, Gant was feeling bolder as time went on. It had to be pretty late by now, maybe almost morning. They had to make the most of whatever time they had left. So he didn't linger in the doorway of the next room. It seemed someone had already come through, so any baddies waiting for them would have already been distracted. Right?
