Night 53: M31-M40

Sleep came and left Kaworu easily. He couldn't remember most of the time he had spent there in bed, but he acknowledged the absence of experience. Nothing had happened that day. A person had told him to sleep, and laid a hand on his head. He had felt nothing. He only stayed still, and waited for the bleed of identities that did not come. He was ( Read more... )

Claire stepped out into the now dimmed hallway outside his room and became 'Vino'.

With his transition to the name he preferred when on the job came the transition into what seemed to be almost a separate mindset from the 'Claire Stanfield' of the daylight. But even now, Vino was starting to make the dividing lines even more blurred, wasn't he? His decision to dispose of his birth name had been enacted that morning, born from the desires he had discovered, what seemed to him at least, the night before. So it wouldn't do to call it a 'transition.' He had to get used to the change now. For even during the day now, he was called 'Vino'. There was now no separation between the 'Vino' of day and night.

'Rail Tracer,' though, was another story. Vino would find a way to awaken the nightmare tonight, he was sure. There was at least one person who now had heard the legend. He'd made sure of that. And the Rail Tracer did not disappoint. But it did believe in opportune moments.

If Vino had a choice, he would never have chosen the clothes he was wearing now, but he could adapt, he knew. Dyed in red, no one would be able to tell the difference. As he stood in the hallway, evaluating his stance.

Vino traveled light. He had opted to leave the strange device known as a 'radio' on his desk, deciding that he could do without it. The keyring he could do without as well -- he had no truly important possessions to worry about, after all. Everything was insignificant in the face of his greatest priorities.

And tonight, the first was to seek out the Rail Tracer.

The flashlight had been brought with him because, despite the fact that Vino operated in the dark, being able to see would be an advantage if he were searching for something, right? But for now, he held the flashlight switched off at his side, turning south and making his deliberate way down the corridor of the patient rooms.
