Day 53: Intercom, Evening

Dec 08, 2010 12:01

The commotion just after the intercom's jingle displayed the same kind of erratic energy that the Head Doctor had been exuding all day.

"Come on, get those papers out of the way - no, I don't...! Ah! Good evening, everyone, and I hope you all enjoyed the activities we had to ( Read more... )

After first talking to Elle and then having to deal with Mohinder, the rest of Peter's day had been pretty relaxed. Having to answer questions really wasn't that hard of a task, and the last shift he'd spent on his own, if with some frequent trips to the bulletin to sort things out with Claire. It sounded like she'd be running off with the younger Peter tonight, but he didn't really mind that. Since the other Peter seemed like a good kid he wasn't too worried. They might run into something, but Claire would at least heal. He had no idea if the younger Peter had any fighting ability, but considering his age he probably didn't. It wasn't like they were trying to get over the wall or run for the basement, though, so he wasn't going to work himself up over it ( ... )

If Sam had to be honest, if there was one thing he was glad for, it was that Dean had decided it'd be best if they each took off on their own for tonight. He wasn't sure what it was; it wasn't that this was a new development, wanting to get away from his brother or his family in general-he'd been there a long time ago-but he'd always thought he'd gotten used to it again. It'd always been hard to separate the lifestyle from his family, anyway, and a part of him had blamed it more on the former than the latter even though...no, he'd never been able to say for sure. It was something he tried not to dwell on.

But that wasn't really working as an excuse anymore.

Never mind. He could put all that crap out of his mind for dinner at least, right? Take a break. Talking to Peter was always good for that. It was almost like when he'd been in college-working with a blank slate, where being a Winchester didn't mean being a WinchesterThere was a reason why he'd never been able to properly articulate to Dean why he'd left ( ... )

Sam's appearance each dinner was something Peter more or less took for granted at this point, which was strange considering how he'd gone through a few roommates before him. It was kind of a morbid thought, like Landel test-ran people before deciding to "keep" them. Except getting chosen to stay was about the last thing anyone could want ( ... )

"Uh." Sam paused with a forkful of mashed potatoes. "Pretty okay, I guess."

He'd sort of given up on the concept of ever having a good day; he couldn't really remember the last time that had happened, even before getting snatched up by this place, so any day where nothing completely disastrous and earth-shattering occurred was...doable. Though he was getting to suspect his definition of disastrous and earth-shattering was becoming kinda a bit looser than it'd once been ( ... )

"Pretty okay" was the most anyone could ask for in this place, and so Peter only nodded. His day had been eventful in its own way, but for once it hadn't left a huge impression on him. Maybe that meant that he was getting used to the routine here, although he honestly didn't know if that was good or bad. He was never going to like this place, but maybe being able to tolerate it would make it easier to focus on what had to be done ( ... )

For a moment, Sam wondered if he'd passed Claire by at one point or another. He knew he'd never met her personally which didn't surprise him, but it did make him realize he hadn't checked in on too many other people, either. The...other Peter, for instance, or, well. Anyone. He didn't even know if the fact that he hadn't seen Lelouch in awhile meant that Lelouch was actually gone or if he just hadn't been paying enough attention. The former would be preferable.

He really needed to get away from everything Dean for awhile, but he knew that it wasn't an option when there were so many pressing matters about it. And he was aware that everyone else here was probably wrapped up in their own problems, too, so he wasn't alone in that, but he couldn't help feeling guilty about it regardless. He was supposed to care. He did care, he just. Sometimes it slipped. Which was no excuse, he knew ( ... )

While Sam hadn't given the most detailed explanation, Peter was pretty sure he got the gist. It didn't sound like something he would want to experience, since he was sure he had thoughts that he would never want voiced out loud or shared with anyone. Everyone had irrational thoughts, things that flitted through their mind for a split second but that they didn't actually mean. That was just how the human brain worked, and there was nothing wrong with it. To have all of that exposed to other people just seemed unfair ( ... )

Awkward was definitely one way to put it. Sam wasn't sure he could constitute their conversation earlier as working out, but he also couldn't say it'd gotten really bad, either. It'd been...okay. He'd sure as hell prepared for the complete worst, so at least it hadn't gotten to that point, right?

His instinct was still to brush off the concern, but he contemplated for a few seconds instead. "I don't know," he admitted. "We talked, I guess. I mean, we were kinda...raised different, you know? Dean especially. I sorta never absorbed it as well, so we're not always-" in agreement on the definition of monster "-eye to eye ( ... )

While Sam was still being a bit vague about things, it looked like he and Dean had talked as much as they could, and that things weren't a complete mess. That was just Peter's guess, though, and the answer his roommate had given had really just brought up more questions. He didn't know if he wanted to start hammering him with more of them, but Sam was also the one who'd opened up this topic of discussion ( ... )
