After almost dropping the CD player, Zack did in fact find the volume control and quickly turned it down to a more reasonable level -- loud enough that he could feel the beat of the music, but not so loud that the sounds in the rest of the room were drowned out. Now that it was actually something he could listen to, the music wasn't so bad.
Still, the fact that he had those headphones in did make it harder for him to be aware of what was going on around him, and so the soldier was more or less oblivious to the fact that there was a girl who was staring him down.
For that reason, he was completely unprepared for when Aerith came up from behind him and stared him right in the face. For a second, he thought he had to be seeing things, but her green eyes were too bright to be fake.
"Aerith!" he called back, a little too loud since the music was still in his ears. How could she be here? Yuffie had already given him the full story on what had happened to her a few days back, and he'd come to accept that. For her to suddenly show up like none of that had happened--
The Walkmen fell out of his hands and clattered to the floor, yanking the headphones off of him at the same time. It was a strange parallel to when he'd run into Aerith the first time in this place and she had dropped her tray of food all over the cafeteria floor.
Still, judging from her reaction, it seemed that she was just as surprised to see him as he was to see her. So what was going on?
