Today was election day in the fair county of St. Louis. I worked the polls again. It was a local election so it was sooooo slow. Only a 10 - 12% turn out. But, it was one of the best elections I have worked because all of the other workers were great to work with and things went so smooth. That was really nice. Then I had to go drop off our results at
anemonerosechurch. So I thought of you. And that ditch. Which I did not drive into. I'm tired now. It is a long day, I have to report to the polls at 5am and I got home at 8pm. Then, this is so silly, but I read Dan Savage's column when I got home. I have read his column every single week for 10 years. I own all of his books and I go hear him speak, I absolutely love him. His column this week talked about his mom dying this week and I was so sad. It is interesting that authors who choose to reveal themselves in their books, I feel so close to them. I just felt so sad knowing from reading his stuff how very close he has always been to his mom. It really hit me on an emotional level, even though I obviously have never met this woman. Reading his column reminded me yet again to be very thankful for the family I do have left. Life is fleeting and we don't get a second shot. I hope I can always remember to tell and show my family how much they mean to me and how very much I love them. Okay, I'm pretty sure the lack of sleep is making me wonky.
