A/N: This was origionally supposed to be a birthday fic for
vigotmanpartsv by apparently my muse was depressed and so, here it is...

Well I'm terrified of these four walls
These iron bars can't hold my soul in
All I need is you
Come please I'm callin'
And oh I scream for you
Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'

Show me what it's like
To be the last one standing...
Say it if it's worth saving me

Zoe was in her bunk. Her bunk. It hadn't been her bunk in nearly four years. Didn't seem like her bunk anymore. It was theirs. There was so much of himin that room.

Tears in her eyes, she pulled out a worn duffle bag. It had been his. Blindly, she packed her clothes. It was amazing how little she had. A few momentos of those she'd lost over the years.

There was a knock at her hatch but she ignored it. It was locked anyways. She packed his toys. She packed a few of his girls. She packed away the last tweleve years of her life with blood-stained hands.

Next thing she knew, Mal was standing in fr4ont of her. 'Damn him,' she thought and it showed on her face.

"Don't go."

It was simple. Possibly an order. She should have learned to obey his orders long ago. But Zoe is proud and stubborn.

"No."

Her voice was hard, angry. Full of blame. This was his fault. Wasn't it? His fault her husband was dead. All his fault.

"Please."

She zipped the bag and slug it over her shoulder. Her face was stony as she headed for the ladder. His hand reached for her arm but she pulled away.

"Why ya going?"

"I can't stay here. Not anymore." 'Not with everything gone.'

"Why?"

"I ain't worth savin'."

Zoe left behing Serenity. The only home she'd really loved. She left behind the place she'd wanted to raise a family. She left behind her husbands. She left Mal craddling Vera as if she were a child.

She knocked on the heavy wooden door. A young man answered. He eyed her curiously as he led her inside and sat her in an ancient-looking sitting room.

"Ms. Alleyne?"

She turned. He looked familiar, but off. Not the man she was thinking of. Ushering her into a small office, they were silent. Her tears were silent.

"I want to know that I'm worth savin'. That I'll see them again."

He handed her a book of tissues which she accepted wordlessly.

"They died savin' me. Tell me I'm worth it."

The sheppard reached for her hand. And Zoe wept freely, broken and battered. Blood still on her hands and shirt from where she'd craddled his body to hers.

"Say it if it's worth savin' me."
