Great questions! I put my answers up on my LJ (as a comment to yesterday's post), and here they are here too:
1. What is your favorite beverage and why?
I hate to be boring, but my favorite beverage is…water! I drink it all the time. I don’t like booze that much, am not a coffee person, tea is just ok, and soda is the devil. (Okay, it’s not. But I don’t like it, and it does ruin your teeth). Once in a while, I’ll go crazy and have a pina colada or a mudslide, but that happens maybe once or twice a year.
2) What first got you into Firefly?
The movie. I saw a preview for it in a theater. It went something like “A fugitive sister and brother with a secret….a band of rebels on the run…an evil empire” (not the exact tag lines but close enough). I went “OMG, I have to see this!” I rarely watch TV and had never even heard of Firefly. But I made a mental note to see “Serenity” when it opened. I saw it, loved it, went back next weekend to see it again, and did a bit of web surfing to learn more about it. The characters stayed in my mind. I bought the DVDs of the show and pretty much fell head over heels into the fandom. I hadn’t felt this way about a fandom since X-men.
3) What is your favorite movie/literary work?
I think I’ll select a literary work here, and go with Marion Zimmer Bradley’s “The Mists of Avalon”. So many other novels have tried to come close but none have. The complex plots, deep characters, vivid descriptions….one can only step back at this epic and marvel at it. (But whatever you do, don’t read any of the prequels, which were actually penned by someone else after Bradley died and are utter crap.)
4) What is your secret ambition?
Hmmmm…Hmmmm… Have sex more often? No, that’s not secret. Give up my corporate job and teach instead? Change the world? I’ll go with change the world, even though that one’s not a secret either.
5) If you could marry any celebrity, who would it be and why?
Hell, I’d just be happy to marry my partner! I really wouldn’t want to marry any celebrity, but I will say that I think Gina Torres, Angelina Jolie, Queen Latifah, and Natalie Portman are all gorgeous. And all the guys in Firefly are cute (except for Book - oh, heck even he is kinda cute too).
1) Hey, water rocks. I'm a juice girl myself and I try to not drink all that much bozze. Leads to craziness, mostly from the people I'm with. Anyway...
2) A lot of people got into it with the movie. My brother would not allow me to see the movie without seeing the show first. I can't remember being in love with a show and a concept this much before, altough I do LOVE x-men.
3) OMFG!!!! I love Mists of Avalon!!!!! That book is amazing!!! Did you enjoy the miniseries? And I didn't know she didn't write the prequels. That makes me sad. I thought they were okay, loved Mists more though.
4) Change the world is cool. But what would you teach? I'm interested. I want to teach English. :D
5) Hey, I'm all for marrying your partner. Good to know someone I know is happy with their love life. As for your celebs, I agree with all of the above except Angelina. Not really her biggest fan (and now it's not because of Brad and Jen). I just, I dunno, she's not my favorite.
2. Wasn't it hard seeing the show before the movie, from the standpoint of what happened to Wash? I would've been as basketcase. I was very glad that I saw the movie first, so I at least knew what was going to happen to this character. (Curse you, Whedon!)
3. Oh, I'm so glad you like Mists too! Isn't it the best book ever?? I've read it 3 times and will surely read it again someday; I never tire of it. It's a masterpiece, something for all of us fiction writers to aim for. I did like the miniseries but...it was nowhere near as perfect as the novel. Honestly, each time I read the novel I spend like the last 100-200 pages crying (because it was all so overwhelming? because it's coming to an end? because Morgaine I believe ultimately did fail?)
4. That is an awesome goal of yours to teach English. Fabulous! Me, I'd like to teach what I majored in in college, which is Political Science. Though hey, I'd enjoy History or English too.
2) Yeah, it was hard. I'd fallen in love with Wash and his relationship with Zoe and then suddenly *reaver harpoon*. The first time I watched it, I was alone in my dorm room, no one in the suite and I'm watching and I'm like, 'Damn, he landed and everyone's alive. That's my--- What? No, Joss Whedon did not just kill Wash. No way. *pause* Didn't happen. *rewind* Landed. Happy. Safe. *reaver harpoon* DAMN YOU WHEDON!!!!!!!' I know, it's dorky, but it killed me. I was bawling. Just showed the movie to my friend after showing her the series and she's like 'why are you curled up in the fetal position?' I jumped every time Serenity hit something on that runway and then the harpoon and I was crying and she was sitting there in shock. Still gets me. And of course, during the funereal, I'm crying, (crying like a baby, a hungry, angry baby...).
3) True, I do love the book more than the miniseries. It was a stunning work. I really have no other words to describe it. It's just amazing.
4) Political Science is cool. I love English. Shakespeare. Chaucer. Bronte. Austin. *sigh* My brother wants to teach history. He's a World War II buff.
Thank you. I like learning more about people. Part of my nature I guess. :D
Yes! yes! Joss is evil. and this was the whedon's verise death that killed me! I stopped watching Angel when they killed Cordelia. I felt so horrible and thought "any minute Tara is gonna get up. it can't be that simple!" And "your shirt" killed me! I felt dread when Anya died. -gasp- Doyle! :'( JOSS IS EVIL! -cries-
When Wash ... I was in denial. I actuall went "No no nonononononononooooo! Quick! Call Si ... oh! that's all the way through to the otherside?" =-o "I ... I guess don't call Simon then?" And I get so angry when I see that Inara made it. Even though Wash was the responsible choice for the Reavers because he was the Pilot. -grinds teeth- and I thought we got the quota in when they killed Book. Okay Book dies so nobody else has too. And it pisses me off to no end when that Bitch Inara is changing her clothes while everyone's getting ready go through Reaver space again! -shakes head- the only thing that redeems her in my mind is the shot she got off that saves Zoe when she went ape-shit on that one Reaver (who I like to think is the one responcible for that damn harpoon!)
I'm sorry I think I'd like her more if Wash hadn't died and they'd continued with the story. I'm sure she would've surpried us. -sticks bar'o' soap in mouth- I'm gonna sit in the corner.
