wow, what a response!

Yesterday's post got some pretty amazing resposes and I have to say, I am delighted that so many people care so much! So, in response:

Firstly, I know that some people reacted a bit to my somewhat explosive and not entirely reputable content. All I can say to this is that I was very angry and wanted to make it known how important I feel the issue is. Sometimes you've got to spice things up to get people to listen at all.

Though, on the whole, the things I said were not exaggerated at all. Unfortunately.

Secondly, I talked to Julian after I posted this and he had some interesting things to say, which I hadn't considered before. He reminded me of how difficult things like population control are, considering the fact that it is not the weathly countries but the struggling developing nations which are over-populated. And it is so deeply ingrained in the human species to reproduce as much as possible in times of crisis that the last thing they want to do is have less babies. Whatsmore, I believe on the whole people in developing countries take more joy in spending time with children and growing their families. So there's a tricky point.

He also tried to convince me that we can all colonise new planets in the future... I don't know about that. For a start, even if we could, I think I'd rather cut down on consumption a little and live where we're naturally designed to live, not try to build atmospheric domes and stuff like that so that we can live in places that are just not made for people. I rather like Earth; it's a pretty good place really. I don't think I want to leave any time soon.

What else? Hmmm... oh yeah, the comments I made about severe drought were specifically in regard to Australia. And congrats to Mr Howard for finally calling an emergency summit on this issue. I feel for the poor farmers who are selling off their new season's lambs simply because they can't feed them.

And on a more positive note, this might eventually mean a Labor government in Australia, as climate change and the environment have been a strong focus of the left for a long time. Time for Beazley to turn around and give the Libs a serious "I told you so". And the greens will be right behind him. Just so long as they don't manage to be as unresponsive as last election and fail once again to refute the false claims made by our honest leaders... *cough cough* (speaking of which, I don't know a great deal about the ecomony, but from what I've heard, the government is not in control of interest rates, so why the hell are either party trying to run campaigns based on keeping interest rates low? The World Bank decides. Sorry guys, but you don't actually control everything.)

Two more things. Number one: Today was hot and humid and disgusting, and it was only 32 degrees. Just imagine how we're going to feel when it's ALWAYS this hot. Anyone noticed how we don't get any real Summer storms to give us relief from the heat anymore? It's horrible. Looking forward to the sunny sunny weather people? Hope you like it 'cause I know I won't. And finally, a personal note: I'm going to miss my tasty steak and roasts, but not so much as I'll miss having a habitable world to live in.

Ooh, and who is this noidea72 character? Great to have someone new posting here! I noticed we have a lot of mutual interests... wow, yeah, a lot...
