Sometimes the people on Maplestory make my world so very surreal. For those who play, you know the halloween event is out in full force right now. Basically, monsters have about an 0.2% chance of dropping a piece of candy, and if you collect 100, they can be exchanged for a halloween prize. Since the droprate is so astronomically BAD, candy in the Free Market is pretty damned expensive. You're looking at upward of 25k-50k per piece.
This morning I took down my shop after waking up and tallied my sales overnight. Then I checked out the shops that had sprung up next to me in my absense. I note that the dude in the next stall over has a stack of about 96 candies that he's selling for only 10k apiece. I had 11 candies from the night before's grinding session, so I bought up the remaining 89 I needed and went on my way. Expensive, sure, but not nearly as expensive as it could've been.
Immediately his shop banner comes down and he starts following me.
Guy: Hey! HEY!!!!
Me: What?
Guy: Give those back!
Me: Give what back...?
Guy: The candies! Give them back! Give them back now! NOW! NOWWWWWWWW!!!! *angry emote*
Me: ...why? They were for sale in your shop. They were fair game.
Guy: *spams angry emote at me and starts futilely trying to stab my character*
Me: ....dude, that's not answering my question
Guy: Because I meant to put them up for 100k apiece! Not 10k! GIVE THEM BACK!!!
Me: you were never going to sell them at 100k...
Guy: I didn't WANT to sell them! I was just showing off my candies! GIVE THEM BACK HORE!!
Me: why did you list them in your shop at all, then...?
Guy: BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH!!!
Me: >>; Okay you know what? I WAS going to give them back even though I didn't have to since I bought them fairly, but now I'm going to keep them because you're insulting me and being a jerk about this. Maybe you'll learn to treat people better in the future. Toodles.
I really WAS entertaining giving them back for a bit there...because, I mean, I've made marketplace mistakes too and it really sucks to get shortchanged due to a typo. However, if you can't even summon the common courteousy to ask me politely to give your stuff back, then guess what? Sucks to be you, critter because I'll be damned if I'm doing you any favors if you call me names and make a scene.
At this point I turn and decide to head out of the Free Market to Henesys with this guy following me, spamming the angry emote, hopping all over the screen and yelling "THIEF!!!" I arrive at Cody, the event dude, to turn the candies in for my prize.
Guy: What are you doing?? Give my candy back!!!! *hophophophophophop*
Me: *goes through the NPC dialog*
Guy: DON'T GIVE MY CANDY TO CODY!! THIEF!!! *hophophophophophophop*
Me: *gets shiny new pumpkin bucket for the candy*
Guy: ARE YOU TALKING TO CODY?? DON'T TALK TO CODY!! GIVE IT BACK YOU B!TCH!
Me: *equips pumpkin bucket and taps the smile emoticon at him*
The guy went fucking ballistic. He hopped all over the map, defamed me, said he'd reported me for scamming (LOL), and ejected an illegible diatribe of insanity out of his mouth that was unreadable save for the occasional "candy" and "thief". It was like watching some beautiful fireworks display, except there were glorious flowers of shit being spewed across the sky instead of plumes of colorful sparks. A bystander whispered me to ask if I'd hacked him, and I explained the situation, recieving a token "rofl" in response.
I then scrolled out to Ellinia to take a boat to Orbis and go back to grinding, recieving whispers from the guy, still demanding I return to the Free Market and give him the pumpkin bucket because its only fair. I told him, before putting him on ignore, that if he kept it up, I was going to report him for harrassment.
I was treated to one last "b!tch" before the block was placed.
