I've gotten as far as I can on the shawl until I get some more thread. I plan bright topstitching along the seams, as woolen slacks are drab. Once I've done that, I'll applique leaf-shapes in vivid colors over the moth holes. Finished, it will offer the same coverage as a jacket.
I had seen a slave quilt done this way, in long strips. Since it was a slave quilt, it was quite the thing. Wouldn't be too hard to do--use wool pants for the strips, and a motheaten wool blanket for the batting, and holy shit, you'd be warm enough.
The first nightgown turned out well. I'll do another one later, plus dresses and blouses when I get some more material. It's a Mexican peasant dress pattern with a yoke neck, so it's simple and adaptable.
We have hyacinth bulbs sprouting in mason jars full of lava rocks. Soon they will bloom and fill the house with perfume. The Sisters will be over for supper in a week or so, we'll give them the jars to take with them to jumpstart spring.
