Apparently giving a cat his own theme song

is a bad idea.
Last time I saw Jake was during the gawdawful heatwave that would smack you facefirst into the dirt within 60 seconds. Jake laid out under the shade of the truck all day, didn't even flinch when I bumped it taking the boxes from it.

Within a day or two the weather broke, but he didn't come back around. Earlier in the week I'd seen a something spying on me as I hung the wash. It was brown, and larger than the small dog, but smaller than Aaron's idiots. About the size of one of the pigs, but I don't think it was them. They usually travel together and I can smell them besides.

I thought it was a sneaking stray and yelled "Hey!". It started to run and I encouraged it along with a "Git!". I don't think it was a stray, though. They usually stay to the road or more in the open, hoping someone will have mercy on them. It may have been a fox. Josh was talking about a family of brown foxes. They'll eat cats, I think.

Now that Jake no longer comes by, Gary visits more often, but he's not well. He wheezes, and his nose and footpads turn dark pink with exertion. If he follows me out to the garden, I let him watch me hang the wash, but then I carry him back closer to his yard. I don't want something to catch him that far from home.

He doesn't like to be carried, and will tantrum by scratching and kicking my hands once I've set him down, but the last time I let him follow me back, he was exhausted and panted for a long time.

Kelly came up and made peace with Joe and me. He encouraged Aaron to stop by Hazel's for her birthday while we were there. Joe said "Hey" to him and Aaron 'heyed' back and nothing more. I ignored him. Kelly's wife, Debby was content to have Hazel wait on her.

Joe had told Kelly that if his neighbor (Aaron) has a problem with him, he'll have to say something about it himself, that Joe isn't going to hear any of that coming out of Kelly's mouth, and Kelly agreed. We haven't heard anything from the lil peckerhead, so I guess he's got no problems.

Lenny lost his job by showing out and went back to live with Clarissa and Lowell, his parents. Clarissa didn't want him there, but Lowell did. Since Lowell's sober and retired, he spends his time watching every move Clarissa makes, and I suppose he thought he could control Lenny the same way. He didn't realize there's a big difference between a spouse's indulgence and a junkie's routine.

They went away for a couple days and returned to find that Lenny had had scummy people over to the house, had thrown a phone through the wall and otherwise trashed the place. Lenny then went into someone else's house and started trashing that. They called the cops, but he avoided arrest by agreeing to go into rehab. Sly, that.

My family reunion is Saturday and Sunday. I get to run some of the festivities, but it's the last time I'll do that, and I wish I wasn't this time.
