I'm below the $100 financial cushion I prefer to keep. I don't have a job. And I just got another $375 billed to my Bursar's account for my meal plan.
...And I just bought Eva volume 9. Whee, priorities.
I have to say, though...for the first time, I think I actually prefer Anno's version to Sadamoto's. The Kaoru of the manga is just too much of a forceful jerk for my tastes, rather than the tender, if naivie and fatalistic, Kaworu from the anime. And the relationship between Kaworu and Shinji is just comical, rather than touching. It's nearly a parody of the anime, with Shinji freaking out on Kaworu in the shower and more or less telling him to go fuck himself.
That, and the encounter between Asuka and Arael is very poorly executed in the manga, especially after Sadamoto set the psychadelic bar so high with volume 8 (Shinji dissolved in the Eva). Not to mention it's hard not to laugh at lines like "You're raping my soul!"
And, on a worse note for my finances, they have Yotsuba&! #2 and Excel Saga #7-8 in stock.
