Itz Christmas

Dec 27, 2012 20:17

You may already know this, but last Tuesday was Christmas day, so I have been having an busy time trying to keep track of where I am supposed to be. Fortunately my new Yoof Fone has a calendar that automatically syncs with my computer or I would have no hope of keeping up.

Skipping over the pre-Christmas and Mayan Apocalypse celebrations, Xmas Eve found us at Rhiannon and Steve’s drinks party which started with our straightforwardly admiring the colour-co-ordinated oven gloves and degenerated in to shop-talk amongst the various web developer types.

Christmas lunch was provided by the party hosts with the mosts, cleanskies and timscience, to the usual formula:
  1. Do we have enough mushrooms?
  2. We’ve made too much food!
  3. This is tasty!
  4. I can’t believe we ate it all!
The main innovation was the hour-long video call with my siblings in the morning (that evening, for my sister in Australia).

Boxing day had some desultory attempts at consumerism that ended up with me buying a jumper but not curtains, followed by Carcassonne and Christmas pudding with glittertigger and her sister Lisz.

Today I had lunch with Thomas from my old place of work, followed by last-minute present-shopping (in accordance with my Lean Inventory approach to Christmas purchases), followed by gâteau and Innovation at the abode of cleanskies and timscience. Turns out my old company are piviting and probably won’t want to be selling me my fancy chair after all, alas!

Tomorrow is our annual two-fer, visiting my sister Rachel, her partner Andy and their son (my nephew) Alex, while they visit Dad’s widow Josie and son James in Ramsgate. Assuming I survive that, there is Oxfam Bookshop, another friend’s post-Christmas drinks, and feeding cats the next day.

Then we start the build-up for the New Year celebration.
