Just Keep Swimming

Today is weird.

Before I went to bed last night, I realized my baby girl ( Azure, so named for her eyes) isn't eating at all any more.  She's sensitive around her haunches, and I've seen her at the litter boxes but not using them.  She's prone to bowel problems, and I think she's got an obstruction or serious problem.

I got up at 5:00, after only four hours of sleep, and took her to the veterinarian in Euless.  Got there just before they opened and decided to treat myself to some Starbuck's (haven't had any noticeable caffeine in three days) for being responsible.  As I exited the car I got a call from my friend, Silvertip.  He filed for divorce and his wife is being served notice today.  AS he said, it's not a surprise but it may be a bit of a shock.

The barista looked at me and said, "Can I make this a quad grande for free?  You look like you could use it today."  Hooray for free espresso shots!  I gotta stop going to that Starbuck's.  It's the one where my ex-wife told me, "I'm never coming back."  Now I get the news of another divorce.  Just coincidence.

Anyway...

I've come to a realization about my job that I feel stupid for having this late in the game.  We started our jobs on 10-13-2008.  The Morgan-Stanley merger was announced on 1-13-2009.  They had to know the merger was coming well before they hired us.  That's the realization.  Obvious, right?

My thoughts and conclusion on this are that they hired the Texas team and laid off the New York team in preparation for disbanding the group as part of the merger.  Certainly they were looking at systems integration prior to announcing the merger.  A lot goes into these financial institution mergers.  When they move as fast as this one has, it's because they've done months of planning before announcing and proceeding.

It's just speculation, but it explains a lot.  Our supervisor is not settling in here.  We have no contact with upper management but through him.  No information is forthcoming about the merger even when we ask.  When a radio station changes formats they usually call a morning meeting.  They don't tell anyone what's going on until then.  They don't want information leaked or DJ's hacked at losing their jobs and doing something on-air.  If a change is happening and you're not getting information, it's because they don't want you to know what's coming, or they don't trust you to keep your mouth shut.

Something that went well and could have gone horribly wrong...I accidentally shut Kairo in Murphy's room last night.  The boys spent the night together; ahead of my schedule for integration.  There was no bloodshed and no fighting.  When I went in to check on Murphy this morning, Kairo popped out from behind the blinds and strolled out as if he was on holiday.  Just visiting.  I have two great boys!

As soon as I have pictures of Murphy worthy of posting I will.  He's adorable, and a great fit for my aging pride (as in lions, not ego).  His youthful enthusiasm is already affecting them in a positive way.

EDIT:
The vet says Azure was moved by the spirit and is cleansed of her blockage! Hallelujah!

She will be staying overnight due to complications in getting her picked up. I will get her in the morning and there will be a happy reunion.

In other news, dealing with my ex-wife was melodramatic. I thought she was upset because it was incongruous for her to get Azure from the vet. She seemed to feel beholden to help me because I asked and Azure is her baby girl. She got a little moist around the eyes and I tried to be supportive. No, really...I did! She even thanked me for it, but said that it wasn't about picking up the kitten. My response, "Then I'm not sure I can help you." She agreed.

I used to want to console her sadness. For a short time I reveled in it a bit. Now it's just annoying. I don't care if that makes me a bad man.
