I feel a bit frivolous about posting all this after taking a look at the storm reports from the Southeast (and the news in general); crossing my fingers that everyone in LJ land from that area is doing OK.
Anyway, as mentioned, this last weekend at
Norwescon was a very good time -- great guests (I got to hear both Jim Butcher and Patricia McKillip talk about writing, which was highly enjoyable; in fact, all of the panelists were entertaining and informative), good friends, and a good room party.
One of my first priorities was getting posters up for our party -- and boy, were the posting areas full even by the time I arrived (c. 5pm Thursday). In fact, the whole con was packed from day one, which is unusual enough that even hotel staff were commenting on it. I guess folks were just jazzed and ready to go this year.
Sorry for the slightly blurry image quality -- I didn't realize I hadn't gotten a clear shot till I pulled the pic up on my home computer. Still, it gives you an idea.
Here's another poster that has nothing to do with the Geek-out, or anything else I did, but which made me smile:
The party was held Friday night, and we had fun scattering action figures around the room:
Naturally we had a Lis Sladen tribute up, on a handy little end-table, flanked by both a White Point Star and the (*cough*) Koh-i-Noor diamond (it still cracks me up that they used a paperweight for that prop).
I left room so the table could still be used, but I was touched to notice that party-goers tended not to set cups and plates there anyway; I even heard someone say, "You can't put that there, that's Sarah Jane's table!" :)
Also, there were cookies. Lots of cookies -- mostly thanks to
souleswanderer (who billed herself as "The Cookie Lady" on her badge this year), but I contributed a little.
I was really pleased by the turnout. There was spirited S6 speculation. There was squeeing. And there were fezzes, which was awesome.
Also a Pair o'Docs!
Fortunately, we avoided any catastrophic, universe-rending consequences, thanks to the approval of mini-Rassilon!
I didn't get the names of any cosplayers, more's the pity, but if you recognize anyone let me know and I'll credit.
Five was handing out nifty "The Doctor's Companion" ribbons, and
aibhinn and I each got one. We weren't like, excited and squeeful or anything. Nope, not at all.
My friend Anna, while perhaps not as hardcore a DW fan as the rest of us, still seemed amused (which is a good thing, since we held the party in the room she was sharing with me), and kept busy with some embroidery she started at one of the panels earlier in the day:
I spent the day dressed as River Song -- nobody got it till the very end of the party when one gentleman said, out of nowhere, "Oh! You're River!" like it was a sudden revelation. Ah, well, I wasn't replicating a specific outfit, after all, and the hair, while floofier than usual, still wasn't quite right. I'll probably have to resort to curlers eventually . . .
This time, I got
canaana to draw on River's tattoo, which is kind of a fun, geektastic LJ moment: costuming collaboration with an f-lister, yey!
Aaaaand, that's the end of Thursday and Friday's pics. I'll post images from Sat. in the next day or so, possibly along with some cookie recipes -- but I think this post is full enough!
