Heh. I'd mentioned this to
aibhinn over the phone, but when I was trying to figure out if I should write down "Target of Opportunity," or if that would be the story that would send everyone running for the hills, squicked to the max, I received this fortune with my daily ration of cheese wontons:
"Want to learn how to love, start with the one you hate."
Whoa. o_O
I may be an agnostic, but sometimes the Universe does seem to have something to say, and when I get a fanfic request from the Powers That Be, I figure I should probably write it up!
Changing gears, I'm HUGELY looking forward to the new Golden Compass movie -- this one looks like it will succeed beautifully as an adaptation of a much-loved story (exactly what The Seeker failed miserably at). I've adored Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series for about a decade, and am delighted with the additional buzz the books have received as a result of the movie's production. However, there's also the attendant commercialism/marketing to deal with, some of which borders on the surreal. The other day, while checking out other stores at the mall, I ran into something at Waldenbooks that literally had me making the o_O face.
An Iroek Byrnison PEZ dispenser.
I need brain bleach. Or brain ammonia (just not at the same time). Or better meds. Or something.
Finally, just to prove that I'm really not a freaky-scary person, even after some of the fic I've written lately, some cute pictures of my pets under the cut. Really. If nothing else, they're a counterbalance . . . XD
First, the gerbils, Fawn and Grey; sadly, Fawn is no longer with us, but he was over 3 years old, which is a darn ripe old age for a gerbil.
Next, (His) Nibs the guinea pig -- I adore his anime hair; he looks like a tiny Peter Petrelli when his forelock grows out.
Then it's Gandalf, "my" cat, to whom I often refer as my co-author, since he's usually on my lap or near me whenever I'm on the computer.
Next, Hubert the Bunny -- I really must get a better pic of him so I can make another "plot bunny" icon out of it . . .
And, finally, the auxilliary cat, LSR's Tippy (who is, incidentally, Gandalf's mum). See? Lots of cute critters. ;)
