Sixth Week, Saturday (10/11/2003): Peri's journal.

There are plans for later, of course, but fro right now, she's enjoying a moment of quiet and solitude, thinking about the events of recent days. Tommy's in his room, working on some new music when Peri comes by. The door's open, and he sees her in the doorway and smiles; "Hey darlin'!"

Peri beams and comes in, slipping behind him and his guitar to give him a hug and steal a lingering kiss. "Hi, handsome. Should I let you play a bit? I was just getting restless, wanted to see if you were up to going out early..."

He grins, returning the kiss. "Naw.. I'm just foolin' around. What've you got in mind?"

[dame_peri]

"Ummm..." She grins and settles in beside him, and says, "I was thinking there's got to be a fall carnival here somewhere. I'm in the mood for rides. And funnel cakes. And stuff. If you're good with that..."

Peri pauses, regarding him with an easy smile. "And I had to discuss something with you. Nothing bad."

I just hope he's okay with this.

He grins; "Okay. I'm sure we can find somethin' around. It's the time of year for 'em." He looks at her and nods; "Y'all wanna talk about whatever it is before we go, or later, darlin?"

"Whichever?" She grins and rises, reachign into his fridge and grabbing a Coke. "You want one while I'm up?" So gracious, with his stuff...

When Peri returns, she perches on the bed and smiles. "It's about a conversation Ash and I had last night. Given that you're my boyfriend, and I want to talk over important things with you before I do them, I figured this qualified." She pauses long enough to steal a kiss. "You look exceptionally hot today. Sorry, got distracted. Where was I?"

He chuckles, and says; "Please honey." When she has the second coke, he pulls her into his lap and grins; "Something about a conversation with Ash?"

Peri settles in contentedly, leaning back into him. She leans in to kiss his throat, and then says, "Yeah. Ash and I talked last night... he asked me to do Clasped Hands with him."

Tommy Lee blinks a bit, and lets his face slip into neutral. He doesn't seem upset, but.. surprised. "He did? That's sorta a surprise."

Well I didn't see /that/ comin'.. gives a whole new meanin' t'bein on shakey ground without warnin'.

Peri smiles wryly. "It wasn't to me. I mean... we're close, but I don't see it ever becoming romantic, really. So... it's really more just reaffirming what's already there."

She takes a sip from her Coke, studying his expression for a moment as if trying to divine his thoughts. "Does it bother you? I mean, I didn't want it to feel like there was any intrusion between us as a result..."

He shakes his head. "I.. guess I don't see it th'same as you do honey, but that's okay - there's a lotta things in this world I just don't get." He smiles at her and gives her a soft, sweet kiss. "It.. doesn't bother me. But.. it can't help but change things a'tween us a little, no matter what y'all want. Oaths are powerful things, darlin' - you know that."

An' anytime that it comes down t'fulfillin' that Oath or me, th'oath'd win.. but ah well. I gotta trust her.

Peri keeps studying him as he talks, listening. She takes a swallow from the Coke and thinks, then says, "What aren't you understanding, Tommy Lee? I'd oath to you if you'd asked, but the one I'd be more inclined to give, I don't think you'd accept yet."

Well, that was blunt.

"I know they are, but the point is, if he was in trouble I'd help him anyway. It's just how things are." Her dark eyes glint with faint golden specks, and she says, quietly, "I just didn't want to upset you or make you feel... I don't know. Uncomfortable."

He looks at her, wordless for a long moment, then kisses her softly. "Honey? I'm.. kinda in the same place about Oaths to you right now. I am terrified of screwin' things up with ya, so I spend every day tryin' not t'rush, and .. let's face it, not succeedin' very well.

He pauses a moment then goes on; "It ain't you Oathin' Clasped Hands with Ash that's makin' me uncomfortable, babydoll. It's.. that Oaths haveta take precedence. Always. An'.. let's be honest here.. Clasped Hands? Not enough fer you an'I.. but.. it's too soon fer t'other. We gotta be sure. So.. it worries me a lil' that in th'short term, if it came down t'me or that Oath, y'all'd have t'keep the Oath, an I know it.. but.. that's my problem, not yours."

Peri returns the kiss gently, listening as he speaks. She nods slowly, but smiles, replying, "We'll be ready when we're ready, I guess, but... you know he's not going to abuse it, and neither will I. And... I think, in some ways, it's a good preparation for the future, for you and me. So I'll be more used to an oath that isn't one of fealty."

She watches his eyes, and adds, quietly, "Life seldom comes down to choices like that. And if it came down to Ash being in danger, I'd ask you to come with me. It's that simple."

He nods, "I guess you're right lover mine. So.. wanna go find that carnival?"

Peri meets his gaze, and slips one hand under his chin. "One thing first." Her head dips in and steals a lingering, slow, soft kiss, and then she murmurs, "I love you, you big silly wonderful guy. Now take me to the funnel cakes and cotton candy..."
