Fourth Week, Tuesday, note to Tommy Lee

May 18, 2004 13:06

In the hallway, during the day, Peri manages to slip a folded note into Tommy Lee's pocket, then skips away gaily, waving. It's written in aqua felt-tip pen on pink paper, the sheet folded into a neat triangle. Once text is unearthed from the origami-esque folds, it reads: Hi, handsome! *kisses ( Read more... )

Peri squeals and squirms at the tickles, which was likely the point of this exercise. "No, I just wanted to hear you say it." She giggles. "Well.. lots of kinds? I know he's a Dylan fan, we had a long conversation about that."

"He'd probably like that... Well, I'll have to rely on your expertise for picking out good ones..." A pause. "You mean, as like, a combined gift?"

He hrms. "Well, or we could get him both, one from me one from you. I don't wanna rub his nose in us bein' involved. I know he's okay with it, but..ya know what I mean."

She chuckles. "Tommy Lee?" She reaches over, hand on his shoulder. "Ash and I know exactly where we stand with one another. It won't bother him at all. If anything, he'll be happy that two people he likes so much are happy. You have to understand Ash... he'll probably spend the rest of his life with a lot of people around him who love him. Me among them. But I think he understands love as an inclusive thing, not an exclusive one."

He nods to that. "He's young, Peri. And I've got a natural protective streak. So.. yeah. I see yer point. I just have t'watch that streak."

Peri smiles and notes, "I don't know, I think it speaks well of you that you're concerned about my other guy being hurt. But I don't think I could do anything that would hurt him, myself." She reaches over, squeezes his hand, and adds, "Ash is young, but he's emotionally about twice as mature as me, and intellectually, he's an adult."

He nods. "Well, You know him better, so I'm trustin' yer judgement on this. I figured we could get him a nice acoustic guitar if y'all wanted."

Peri chuckles. "That'd be good, I think." She shifts, leaning in to use his shoulder as a headrest. "And probably one small jokey thing of some sort, but that's an 'I'll know it when I see it' thing."

He nods, pulling into a parking space in town, and leans in to steal a kiss. "Okay, that works for me. Shall we darlin'?"

Peri gives up the kiss readily, grinning. "Absolutely," she says, opening her door and slipping out, ready for every woman's favorite endurance sport... shopping.

He watches her climbing out, muttering; "I'm soooo doomed" Then follows after. "Remember. Birthday gifts. Not cute halter tops, no matter how much fun I have takin' ya outta them."

Peri beams at him over her shoulder and says, "Only if we happen to see one while shopping. Promise." And with that, she's sashaying along the sidewalk, her hand capturing his. Yep, yep, doomed.

He grins and pulls her toward the music store. "Hey.. the've got some nice Washburns, and some Martins! Cool.!"

He picks up one of the mentioned guitars, and starts strumming on it. "Nice light action.."

Peri does a lot of nodding and smiling - she can tell from context that he's pleased, but the names mean little to her. She smiles, watching him playing one, and says, "If you play 'Dueling Banjos', you're getting no more licorice whips tonight."

He laughs, and leans in, whispering; "Ah note ya'all didn't threaten no sex." But he doesn't play /that/ song. Instead he starts in on a few classic country pieces, just riffs from them - Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line", George Strait's "Older Whiskey", even some old Glenn Campbell.

He grins, looking over to her, and starts picking at something else. It's quickly evident it's _Hotel_California_.
