Peri is enjoying a rare quiet moment in the sunshine with iced tea and time for thoughts and musings, with so many things happening, so many changes, and so many new people to know. She's found herself settled in atop a large flat rock, in one of the quieter parts of the campus. Like a lizard, she thinks with amusement, The sidhe suns herself on a rock. How... flattering.
Amusement curves her lips upward. She'd been perusing a dog-eared copy of Neverwhere, relaxing, thinking... but at the moment, her attention is on the here-and-now, and not a world away in her book. She tugs a folder from her pack, withdrawing chimerical parchment and colored pens, and chuckles, settling in to write.
Dear Nanny Esther:
How are you? I barely hear from Mom and Dad, but I was really happy to see your letter my second day here - did you mail it before I left? I love being back at school but I miss having you around!
So far things are going really well. I've met a whole bunch of new people, and found old friends again, and got to watch Lady Kelia ni Stick-Up-The-Butt get bathed in an ice cream sundae at the social the night I got here. It was really hard not to laugh. She did not take it well. Sheesh. They're just clothes, and the poor Boggan girl who did it (accidentally - she tripped) even offered to clean it up! I mean, if anyone could fix it, a Boggan could, right? (And I'm not just flattering you, promise.)
I'm enjoying classes a lot. English Lit is awesome, and Dame Drusilla is a really good teacher. She recommended some books to me - I ordered a bunch online and can't wait for them to get here. Intermediate Cantrips is scary, and a group of us were arranging a study group for it, because The Gothic Poe-Esque Looming Eiluned Baron is teaching and he's a hard grader. I'm shuddering. Really.
On the plus side, Sir Keighvyn gets more handsome every year. Sigh.
I've met a lot of new folks, though, and I'm really enjoying it. My roommate this year, Roxie, is great - she's spunky and bouncy and fun. She's a Pooka, and a musician, and we get along great. I even share the gummi bear stash with her. We both talk thirteen to the dozen, so it's never dull. (Or quiet. But quiet is boring!)
There's a new Satyr in the freshman class named Ash, and we wound up clicking very nicely right off. He's sweet, still a bit confused about everything Fae but dealing with it really well. And snuggly. Did I mention that? He reminds me of Niko a little. Speaking of which, I wrote to Niko, but I haven't heard back yet. (It's only been a couple of days, though.) I haven't seen him since August, have you heard any news?
I also met a few other Fiona - I've become fast friends with Lady Silia Rosewood. She's originally from Pacifica. They stuck her in Blackwillow, can you believe it? That's no place for a Fiona! Her uncle is apparently some big muckety-muck in Pacifica, and he told her, get this, that he wanted her 'studying everything but parties and boys'! Can you imagine? I mean, is he making a special stick for her butt for when she graduates so she can be just like him? Poor Silia. But no fear... I have a Cunning Plan!
And then... there's Tommy Lee. Oh, boy. I don't know what to think. He's a Baron from Down South. Drives a pickup truck and all. And he's cuuuuuuute, and an incorrigible flirt, and... I think I'm doomed. He has the cutest accent. Sigh! At least he's got manners, unlike some sword-stealing, lying Sidhe jerks I could mention. Grrr.
A bunch of use from Rowan went to see an Eshu friend named Mikal and his band Oru play in Brownell this past weekend, and they were really, really good! I mean, I wasn't surprised, but it was just a real charge to be among friends and still see the reactions of the people not 'in the know' as well - we had a great time!
Remember Aidan? I think he's seriously got a thing for this new Eshu girl (Aya) at the school. He was so staring at her during Lit instead of taking notes. It's kinda cute. I didn't even know Aidan noticed girls in any way other than 'not-guys'. I hope it goes well - he's nice, and she seems pretty nice too.
Oh... any chance you can persuade Mom and Dad I need a mini-fridge? It's such a pain to rely on the vending machines and the fridge in the common room. People keep swiping my stuff.
I hope everything's going well by you. Give my love to Lord Teagan and all the others at the 'hold, and tell them I'll write soon! Have you heard anything about Brandon? I know you always hear things first, and I really need to know! (But you knew that.) Yes, I know he's a jerk. I still want to know.
Love,
Peri
She doodles some vines and flowers around the edges in multiple colors, and then carefully folds the stationery to fit into its matching envelope. A blob of Fiona-red wax seals it closed, and a puff of breath helps to dry the wax more quickly. Peri slips the letter carefully into her bag for mailing later, and reaches for her plank. Sitting still too long... time to go. With the skateboard under one arm and her knapsack over the opposite shoulder, she heads back to Where the Fun Is.
