PSA: No haunted insane asylum in Rockford, IL

Aug 11, 2011 13:52

If you're a Supernatural fan, please read this.

There is not and never has been a Roosevelt Asylum in Rockford, Illinois. There is a part of town known as Forest Hills, but it's just a neighborhood occupying some of the better high ground in normally flat-as-a-pancake Illinois. I was at the local history room at the main branch of the Rockford Public Library and overheard the librarian explaining it to a handful of curious teenagers.

Frankly, this town is known for enough bad crap that I resent having a haunted insane asylum being added to it. This really kind of creeps me out, because we do have a mental health hospital just on the northern edge of town, but it's a modern facility, for good or bad, and still in operation. Rockford is not a real life Silent Hill. So if you're fans of that show or of haunted places, please mark Rockford off your list as boring and unhaunted. Please spread the truth if you hear fans asking about it.

Thank you.
