EXCERPT:
Aí went still, eyes wide and his throat bobbing instinctively. Reason told him to get out of there, to flee danger, which Goibhniu radiated as the wall radiated light. Honor held Aí in place, that and faith. First, he’d been summoned here. Second, Goibhniu was his liege, sworn to Aí’s protection even as Aí was sworn to Goibhniu’s service.
Still, in the dark shadow of the glower on his liege’s face and the tension bulking those unrivaled muscles there lay a caution to proceed with care. The riot of emotions in the Smithgod’s heart triggered Aí’s empathic gift like a cascade of solar flares.
Aí shielded. He had to or it would be impossible to function. Goibhniu looked back to the pattern, before turning and moving to his formal chair. A weary sigh echoed through the near empty Court as he lowered himself to the seat. With an exasperated twist of his lips, he motioned Aí forward.
