Hi, all.
Well...age has been catching up with me, and sadly, my weight. I've started doing a program sponsored by my job, Wolters Kluwer (a medical publisher) and the American Cancer Society. It is called Active for Life and it isn't a diet program, though it does encourage healthier eating, but it is a motivator to be more active. What you do is set a goal of how many minutes a day you will be active beyond your normal routine. This is done as teams and there are prizes and in an ideal situation, team activities and motivational emails. Your goal is managed per week, rather than per day so if you do less minutes one day you can make up for it by doing more the next. I get good results under this kind of program.
I've been waking up an hour early and doing about 45 to 50 minutes of weights and recumbant bike time, then I walk to work from the train, which is another fifteen minutes. Between that and changing my diet to include more grains and veggies, I'm doing quite well and I feel better, though...before you get tone, you get flab because your muscles tighten but the extra skin doesn't as fast :( Motivation to keep at it so that the skin catches up!
Anyway, a couple of tricks I have learned...if you have the munchies, eat grapes. For some reason they fill you up faster. Watch out for apples, though...unless it is just me. But whenever I eat an apple by itself I am very hungry afterward.
Well, enough on weight. Back to the writing stuff. Over at the Literary Handyman we have two posts (I missed posting about the first so I'm doing it here). One by Jason Franks about writing good prose, and one by Alma Alexander with thoughts about writing what you know. Hope you enjoy!
http://lit_handyman.livejournal.com Finally, I wanted to share some good news, the Bad-Ass Faeries anthologies recently releases more widely in ebook format and I just discovered today that book one, the original Bad-Ass Faeries is the number one top seller in the fantasy category over at Fictionwise, not just for Mundania titles, but overall!
