Buried alive

It's been nearly two weeks since I've even had the time to stop and think about what the hell happened ten minutes ago, so finally having the downtime to dick around and write something about it is one hell of a relief. Damn. Two Mondays ago I did orientation at St. Joseph's hospital in Bryan, which was long and very dull, but I got paid for it which is a definite plus. This whole week it's been class, football, work from 7 in the morning to midnight at the earliest. Since the five-week summer sessions go by so quickly, skipping one lecture session puts me pretty far behind; rather, it would if I wasn't taking easy-ass classes like calculus and political science. History of 20th-century England is completely unskippable. Football takes the energy right out of me...we've got squat max next Thursday, and I'm extremely pessimistic about it; I'm not getting nearly enough sleep, my mind's never right, and I haven't been physically 100% in over a week. I'm surprised I haven't killed myself or others yet.

Last Friday I had a party over here at the apartment for Carlie's birthday...it was alright, they didn't bring too much dick up in here, so it was mostly tolerable. As per tradition, I mixed some pretty bitchin' drinks. It was really just fun having people over. I had to get back to Plano the next morning to pick up all sorts of stuff, like scrubs, clothes, and back account stuff and ended up wrenching my ankle playing basketball. Next morning I drove to Austin with an ice bag on my ankle the whole time for Father's Day. I got both my dad and stepdad a football autographed by the whole team, or at least most of 'em...I had to get up at 5:30 the next morning to make it back here for class on time and work until 11 that night, so you can see why I've been so damn dead-ass tired all week.

Work is really good. In case I didn't say anything about it earlier, I'm working at Grimes-St. Joseph Medical Center in Navasota, 22 miles south of College Station. I'm doing both ER and acute unit work, so it entails more than my job at MCP: in the ER I have to draw blood and do 12-lead EKGs, along with a whole bunch of other stuff I don't usually do, like minor suture removal, admission, and discharges. I'm pretty excited about it, especially the whole getting-paid part.

I've got a lot of work to do around here, namely cleaning up my hole of a room and my car and buying some food. Tomorrow I'm going up to the metroplex to see the Rangers play the Astros and coming back the same night, then it's work all day Sunday. This summer session needs to end so I can finally have some time to just mess around.

Look at you, soldier boy, now with that big gun in your little hand
As you patrol this foreign land, hear the mine that clicks beneath your feet
As you sit here all alone, will your buddies come and save your life?
But as the enemy appears, see your life flash before your eyes

Now do you see the light fading while your world is crumbling?
Out on patrol!
And all you can do is sit and stare...what revelation have you now? What culmination to your speck of life, your moment in time?
It's your life...
