So, how's 2013 treating you all? Haven't really been doing a whole lot other than going to work and messing around with various video games lately, but figured I should check in anyway. Since going to work is boring, I suppose I'll talk about video games instead! Here are some things I've been playing recently:
Ni no Kuni: This is a very enjoyable (for me and
cessball at least) RPG that calls back to a lot of elements of older RPGs. It also has familiars to collect who fight for you in a sort of pokemon-esque system, but not really. I realize that probably doesn't make a lot of sense, but it doesn't need to I suppose. It feels, to me at least, a lot like one of the older Dragon Quest games. Also it's a collaborative work between Level 5 (of the Professor Layton series) and Studio Ghibli (of AWESOME MOVIES fame), so it's got some pretty big names in on it.
Incidentally it also features an AMAZINGLY bad english vocal cast for the most part, but it lets you have the japanese track with subtitles if you can't deal with it, so you've got an out. If you've got the ability to play this and enjoy RPGs, I'd highly recommend it.
Fist of the North Star - Ken's Rage 2: A Dynasty Warriors-esque game that's based on the anime series Fist of the North Star/Hokuto Shinken. It follows the story of the manga version to the letter and is essentially a very large work for the fans in honor of Fist of the North Star's thirtieth anniversary. If you like the Dynasty Warriors games, you might want to give this a look. If you like Fist of the North Star you definitely should. Be warned, though, Fist of the North Star is a very...
messy series, and the game follows suit.
I've also been playing some older flight sims on my PC lately, but that's probably not particularly exciting to anyone as none of you really strike me as flight sim nerds like I am, so I'll keep those to myself. ;)
All in all, year has been good to me so far. I can't complain.
